Hampton Inn & Suites Hammond

The shower had no water, and it took more than 30 minutes to get someone up to the room. I had to go down to the lobby myself because calls for help were ignored. Our TV remote didn’t work either, and nobody came to fix it after I reported it. As a Hilton Honors Gold member, I also expected bottled water at arrival, but none was offered. Breakfast was far below what I expect from a Hampton Inn, both in selection and quality. I usually count on Hampton Inn for a comfortable, consistent stay, but this one was a frustrating letdown for the price and brand. The service and room upkeep were unacceptable. I’d avoid this location until it improves.

Maurice at the front desk greeted me after a long drive with a huge smile and made me feel so welcome. He was pleasant and really helpful. Hilton, please give him a big thank you. We need more staff like Maurice!

My room was mostly clean, but I felt really itchy in the bed both nights I stayed. At first I thought they were bug bites, though I checked and couldn’t find any. The first time I stayed at a Hampton Inn was for a volleyball tournament, and the pool was a bad experience: the chlorine hurt my eyes, which were burning and very red, and after I showered I noticed red spots all over my body. I wouldn’t use the pool, especially if your eyes are sensitive. My friends were on different floors, and when a friend and I walked to another friend’s room, we saw hand-shaped marks that looked like blood. It could’ve been something else. Imagine!

My biggest issue was housekeeping. As far as I could tell, nobody entered my room during my four-night business trip from Monday to Friday. I hadn’t put out a do-not-disturb sign or asked the desk to skip service. The bed stayed unmade and the trash wasn’t emptied. I had enough towels and toilet paper, at least. I know daily service is the policy, and I’d have understood if they cleaned after I returned on the fourth night instead of the third. Maybe the onion or food smell would’ve gone away sooner if the room had been cleaned regularly. It stayed strong until day four, even with the fans on high. The bed also felt like one side was about to cave in and needs repair or replacement. The property is easy to reach off the interstate, clean and well maintained, and feels like one of the newer Hampton locations. Staff were friendly when I spoke with them. The Hilton app room access isn’t available yet, but that’s a minor inconvenience. Breakfast fell a little short: the eggs and potatoes were unseasoned, there were sausage patties, and the muffins ran out by the second morning and weren’t restocked. I’m in hotels over 50 nights a year and usually choose Hampton for the value and quality. My preferred one nearby didn’t have a King Suite, so I tried this location despite its lower reviews. First and last stay here.
