Super 8 Hammond/North

We drove 19 hours from Texas after being given false information, only to be told we had to leave because our company didn’t have a contract with this hotel and they couldn’t give us a weekly rate. We needed that weekly rate. Two different people misled us and had no idea what they were talking about, even though some of our coworkers had no trouble getting one. This is ridiculous. Ask for a manager before trusting information from any employee here. I’ve never had this problem at a Super 8 in any other state, just Hammond, Indiana.

The smoke smell was heavy throughout the property, even though it claims to be nonsmoking. Breakfast was a joke: the juice machine was empty, the coffee tasted old, and there were only a few cereal bars. I expected a certain standard from a place advertised under the Wyndham name, and this was a huge letdown. It’s disappointing that Expedia even lists it, and I’d strongly recommend avoiding it, even if the stay is free. The room smelled like a cow shed. The bathroom looked clean, but had a horrible odor and the exhaust fan didn’t work. I had no choice but to stay the night, then left early in the morning. I usually don’t write reviews unless something really stands out, and this place was unacceptable.

The employees were very nice, and the comfortable beds had nice pillows. The bathroom was clean, the shower was nice, and the towels were very clean and comfortable, though I wish there’d been toothpaste. The room’s AC worked well, and the TV had a good range of channels, even if I wished it were bigger and plainer. They also offered to clean our room while we went out to Chicago. The second night was awful. Someone in another room was making loud noises, maybe trying to throw up, I’m not sure. It happened randomly through the night for around two and a half hours, and I couldn’t sleep. I called the service desk, but they only checked briefly and didn’t hear the screaming, coughing, or puking. I called again about half an hour later. They said they couldn’t find anything happening, which made sense because they’d only looked for a short time. The noise kept going, and it felt like service wasn’t doing its job. It eventually stopped and I got to sleep, but I was, and still am, terrified and can’t stop thinking about it. The road outside was loud too, which made falling asleep even harder. There was a cigarette smell in the lobby when we arrived. The old elevator shook when it reached a floor, had lots of cracks, and felt unsafe. There were no cameras in the hallways, so if something happened there’d be no proof. The internet was very slow and sometimes didn’t work, and I doubt it reached the whole hotel. The so-called free breakfast was just a cereal bar, so we had to pay to eat at a restaurant. Once, our key cards wouldn’t open the room door, so we had to go down and report it. We got new cards and eventually got in, but were worried we might be locked out. I’ll say it again, don’t stay here. There’s a nearby Days Inn that was much better and cheap too. Even if this is your last option, I think it’s better to go to a hotel farther away.

The website wouldn’t let me book, so I went in person. They said they’d changed owners and tried to charge double the rates shown online, even though the building was the same. The rooms aren’t worth that price. They wouldn’t match the advertised rate or come down even a dollar. Stay at the casino.
