The second room was only a little cleaner than the first, and still smelled bad. There were dirty tissues and a sock under the dresser, wrappers under the bed, and the toilet wasn’t bolted down properly, so it rocked when I sat on it. They took $40 off, which was the best part, but I won’t come back or recommend it if you want somewhere clean and comfortable. The first apartment room had flies and fruit flies in the kitchen, food bits on the counter, a dirty dish rack, mouse droppings in a cupboard, stains all over, crusty packaged condiments, a foul smell throughout, and a contact lens on the shower floor. We asked for some accommodation since it cost over $200 a night. The young woman at the desk offered to clean it or move us, but said a refund wasn’t possible. Also, what’s with the random board on the wall as decor?

The room itself was tiny, dirty, and gross, and the blinds on the door didn’t cover the whole window, so people walking past could see inside. Around the motel, loud drunk people smoked, drank, yelled, and argued through the night. Kids running along the outside hallways by our rooms woke us in the morning. We’d never been to this town before; it seemed like a party town, with people drinking and smoking everywhere, revving motorcycles, and acting obnoxiously. I love the East Coast and beach towns, but this visit was a real disappointment. The motel felt cheap in every way and wasn’t worth what we paid.

The woman at the front desk was friendly, and the inn stayed quiet at night. It’s also in a great spot, about a five-minute walk from the boardwalk and nightlife. I’d stay again and recommend it. I’d read the reviews and was very skeptical, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as they made it sound. The fridge and the area beside the toilet could’ve been cleaned better, though that wasn’t a dealbreaker. Otherwise, the room was clean, with no moldy or musty smell, and no bed bugs that I saw. The sheets and mattress covers were clean, and the room smelled clean when I walked in. The mattress wasn’t especially comfortable, but it was doable. Every place has flaws, but this one seemed pretty well maintained.

For what I paid, the quality didn’t match. My room smelled strongly of chemicals, and the smell made it hard to stay there without covering up the other odors. The cupboards weren’t clean either, and the other smells made it difficult to feel comfortable.

The location was fun, even though it was loud. We caught a fireworks show in the distance, shouted from the balcony at kids riding without helmets, enjoyed the porch, and talked with other guests. But woman to woman, I wouldn’t feel safe staying here. The door blinds meant to give privacy from passersby were broken and didn’t really cover the window, so we had to improvise a way to block the view. The lock was a joke, and someone could get into the room very easily. The AC unit seemed like a biohazard, with so much mold that I wouldn’t turn it on, especially since I have asthma. I brought a fan and a noise machine, which I need for white noise.
