Extended Stay America Premier Suites - Harrisonburg

I’d stay here again. The price was great, the area felt safe, and there’s a Walmart neighborhood market right next door for groceries. The fridge was almost full size. I appreciated having no carpet, since a bare floor gives bedbugs fewer hiding places and might actually get mopped sometimes. I don’t know how often they mop, though. I spent two nights in a one-bed studio. It was mostly clean, with just a few crumbs in the microwave and a hair on the shower door. I never got up in time for breakfast, but they said it was grab and go rather than continental, so I imagine there weren’t eggs or waffles.

Charlie checked us in and was so kind and helpful, making sure we had what we needed. We had a great stay, and the room, WiFi, and kitchen were all nice. Really appreciated his service.

Breakfast was a joke for a place advertised with breakfast. Cereal bars were the main offering, with no plates or bowls, and the only seating had very high chairs that were tough and uncomfortable for someone short. There was barely anything to eat anyway, and the only chair and table at a reasonable height were being used as a personal office by a young woman loudly doing business through her earbuds while typing. I felt unwelcome sitting there. The room situation was already exhausting after 11 hours on the road. We were given the wrong room type despite confirming it at check-in, so we made three trips between the desk and rooms. In the room we were eventually given, there was hair in the tub and on the sheets, the sheets barely covered the bed, the shower curtain bar was broken and angled so the curtain wouldn’t stay shut, and the tub faucet dripped. The sink handle came off in my hand when I tried to turn it on. There was also a cockroach in the fridge, see photos. I was incredibly disappointed and disgusted. The expression on my face must have been obvious, because nobody asked how the stay was at checkout. Management, maintenance, and staff clearly don’t care about cleanliness or comfort. Maybe they shouldn’t be in hospitality.

The staff were friendly, and the grab-and-go breakfast was kept well stocked. Our room was large and well soundproofed, with no outside noise coming through. It was clean and the area of Harrisonburg was nice, close to shopping and restaurants.
