Dunes Express Inn & Suites

I’m glad I got my money back. We booked four days and left before we’d even spent one night because the room was so disgusting. There was mold, bugs, food on the floor, pubic hair all over the bathroom, dried vomit in a corner, and filthy sheets and pillows. I could care less if a place is a bit outdated, but there’s no excuse for paying nearly $300 a night for unsanitary conditions. When I raised the cleanliness issues and showed the photos I’d taken, the head housekeeper was nasty to me. I think her name was Marie or Maria, I can’t remember. Her daughter was another housekeeper. She made me tear up for speaking up and called me “awfully nit picky,” saying thousands of people come through and my standards shouldn’t be so high. Hospitals have thousands of people come through too, and they aren’t this filthy. This all happened right in front of the cameras, and the front desk staff saw the conversation. The front desk people were kind and courteous, though, and the woman who understood my concerns was very sweet when I checked out. The housekeeper and her staff need replacing. We visit the sand dunes every year, and this awful experience ruined our whole weekend. After we got home, we found a bug in our luggage that looked like a bed bug. We threw the luggage away because we weren’t risking bringing bugs into our home. I’m appalled. I’ll take the bug to the health department Monday morning to have it identified, and will take further action if it is in fact a bed bug.

We’ve stayed here twice, and both visits were very pleasant. The rooms aren’t new or extravagant, but they’re nice and clean, and the breakfast is great. It was a little loud on Monday morning, maybe because they have a pool class or something. The BC is right nearby and delivers to the rooms for free. I think this place is perfect if you’re staying in the area.

I was at the Dunes Express throughout January of 2026 during a difficult time in my life. I’m truly grateful for the staff and for how things went during my stay. I have only positive things to say and will recommend the Dunes Express to anyone I invite to visit.
