Lamplighter Cabins & Suites

Everything was just what my family needed for a night while we explored Helena, and we were thrilled with the stay, especially for the price. Our clean, comfortable cabin had two bedrooms with two beds in each, one bathroom, a full kitchen, and two Roku TVs. The kitchen had plates, cups, bowls, mugs, and silverware. We didn’t cook, but the coffee machine was nice to have. Check-in and checkout were easy, and the location worked well for downtown and the museums. We’ll be back next time we need somewhere in the area!

Amy made the booking easy and smooth, and I loved her suggestions for local activities. I’d never been to this state before, but the attentive staff and friendly housekeeping made me feel welcome. The clean, fully functional mini cabin felt like a real gem at hotel prices. It was a great reset.

We’d stay again. Cabin 30 had a vintage feel, and the price seemed right for what we got. Most things were great, but the cleaning crew should swiffer under the beds. I dropped an earring and found it was really bad underneath. The black marks on the front doors could use a Mr. Clean white scrubbing sponge, too. Parking spaces are very small. Our full-size pickup wouldn’t fit in the spot for #30, so we parked across the street.

A large BJJ organization had to move its Montana tournament to Feb 8th because the Helena Venue messed up its contract. I got the message two days before our stay, and the change was completely out of my control, as well as the organization’s and hundreds of athletes’. I contacted Sue right away to move our reservation and offered to pay the $30 change fee. She refused, saying they were full and had turned people away. I understand that as a business owner, but with two days’ notice and Christmas activities bringing people to Helena, they could probably fill those rooms. She read my last message and didn’t respond. A professional reply could have offered to move the booking but explained that the deposit wouldn’t be refunded unless the room was rebooked. Most cabins and motels have a 24-48 hour cancellation policy. Here, you only get 50% back within a week, then nothing. Either they aren’t as busy as they say, or they take full advantage of cancellations and make twice the money. From the reviews, this seems to happen when people have circumstances beyond their control. My teammates, family, and I won’t rebook. Instead of getting the $30 change fee and possibly filling more rooms that weekend, Sue lost our business and got a bad review. I hope refusing to accommodate us was worth losing it over something I had no control over.
