Holiday Inn Houston S - Nrg Area - Medical Center by IHG

The hotel staff were kind and accommodating, and let us check in about three hours early. The building is older and being renovated, though progress seems slow. There are scuff marks and visible wall damage painted over, and water drips from the A/C units onto the walkway between the pool and parking lot. Breakfast is discounted, but I haven't paid for hotel breakfast in years 🫠 We were here for Sorcery Con at the NRG center. Being able to walk to the center and reach good food and shopping nearby was a plus. The neighborhood isn't particularly nice, though it has its perks, so keep that in mind. I'd call it a 3.5/5 stay. Once renovations are finished, the hotel may make up for the area, but I still think breakfast should be free ;)

Pauline had just started driving the shuttle, but she still took us to every medical appointment, even when we were running super late because doctors don't know how to tell time. Monica and Liz at the bar were the best, and Susan made sure there was hot coffee and a smile for us at breakfast. We stayed over a football weekend for medical reasons. The top floors were being renovated, but the staff were warm, inviting, and friendly. Stay here and get to know them, your stay will be amazing. Thanks again, y’all. Lynn and Shawn

The air conditioner started screeching loudly just five minutes after I checked in. The hotel was fully booked, so they couldn't offer me another room. A maintenance tech took it apart in front of me and sprayed WD-40 on it. It went quiet, then started screeching again around 2:00 a.m. I told the woman at the desk the next morning before leaving for a local convention I was working at. I'd be gone for 10 hours, which seemed like plenty of time to fix it. When I got back, the desk employee had no idea if maintenance had done anything and told me to go see what happened. It was quiet again, but around 2:30 or 3:00 a.m. it started screeching loudly once more. I'd asked the hotel in a message for a quiet room before I arrived. Instead I got the noisy A/C, and the room next door had four small children screaming and bouncing on the bed until midnight. I love kids, but that wasn't ideal either. I didn't sleep either night, yet the hotel agreed to refund only one night. I took plenty of videos with sound of the air conditioner.

Our transportation was handled by Pauline, who was professional, dependable, friendly, accommodating, and a very safe driver. Monique was cheerful, professional, and informative, taking care of check-in and checkout as well as the transportation arrangements. MD Anderson recommended this location, and it was the right choice for us. Medical trips like this can be emotionally draining, so being able to focus on what we needed to do while knowing our needs were reliably handled meant a lot. The location, nice rooms, and especially the staff made this Holiday Inn a perfect fit.
