I canceled twice after a pretty stressful experience trying to book with OYO. On my first attempt, the site quoted $198 for prepayment. After I entered my card details and confirmed, the booking was put on hold because Chase flagged it as possible fraud. Chase’s email said OYO had tried to charge $260, which left me unsure about the chain. I tried again with the option to pay on arrival, thinking the first issue might have been an online error. Since the booking was a few weeks away, I called to check that the price wouldn’t change. The automated system said I owed $198 and had no security deposit. But when I reached this hotel, the man on the phone was curt, unfriendly, and a little odd. He said there’d be a $100 deposit. Maybe that wasn’t his fault, but I hadn’t seen any mention of a deposit during booking, and I didn’t want one thing quoted and another revealed later. So I canceled again. The whole situation felt sketchy and wasn’t worth the stress, especially with similarly priced hotels around. I’m giving it two stars instead of one because maybe the stay itself would’ve been lovely, who knows? I hope you have a better experience than I did.

The staff were rude throughout my stay, and the room itself was in rough shape. The pillows and sofa were dirty, and the shower was being held together with duct tape. Those conditions made it hard to have the pleasant stay I expected. The hotel needs to make improvements if it’s going to survive.

Inside the room, there was a moldy carpet smell, bugs in the light fixture, black spots on the sheets, and hair on the shower walls. The comforter and curtain were torn, the dresser being used as a TV stand had no drawers, a bathroom light was out, and the bathroom door handle was missing its knob. The entrance door didn’t feel secure either, since the keyhole was loose. I felt unsafe the whole time. The man at the front desk wasn’t welcoming and took ages to check me in. I would’ve left immediately, but I was exhausted after a long drive, had already paid for the room, and they required a $100 deposit at check-in. I worried I might not get it back if I left. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place.

We’ve just got home, and this was one of the nicest places I’ve stayed. Everyone was kind and helpful, the food was great, and the hamburger on TX street food night was especially good. Our lamp had a problem, but they fixed it quickly. One thing to keep in mind: don’t book a highway room if noise bothers you. It was a little problem for me at night, though my husband wasn’t bothered by it.
