Wyndham Houston West Energy Corridor

The overnight security guard kept walking the floors, which helped the place feel safe. Check-in was quick and easy, and the front desk staff were friendly. The lobby and room were both clean, and parking was simple. I could see the pool from my room and it looked clean, though I think it was closed that late. I'd stay here again.

Customer service was good, and for the last-minute overnight stay we needed, the hotel did the job. There weren't any major problems, but I wouldn't pick it for a special occasion. The grounds felt a little unsafe: the parking lot was dim, some lights didn't work, and the back door seemed like it was never locked. We used to come here often a year or two ago and it was great then, but I worry the quality has slipped. Our room also didn't seem properly cleaned, since we found several things left behind by previous guests. Fine for one night, I guess.

We chose this place for our anniversary, and the trouble started at check-in. Even with a prepaid reservation, we waited about 45 minutes in an extremely long line. Our room still had maids cleaning when we went up to leave our bags, yet the bathroom had hair all over it. The elevators smelled bad and were dirty, and the walls were so thin that full conversations and sexual activity came through loud and clear. The neighborhood wasn't great, but that wasn't a big concern for us. The next day we couldn't get towels: housekeeping never brought any, the front desk had another long line, calls went unanswered, and even after staff assured us we'd get fresh ones, none arrived during the stay. We ended up buying our own. This was the worst hotel experience I've had. At best, it deserves one or two stars.

The restroom was nice, and the staff were pleasant, but I won't stay here again. Before arrival they emailed to ask whether I needed anything, so I requested a playpen or bassinet, both listed on their site, plus extra towels. Neither was in the room at check-in. The room also had no mini fridge or microwave, and it wasn't cleaned until late the next day. The indoor pool water was a comfortable temperature, but the pool room was freezing, cold enough to make me worry about catching a cold or the flu. In the parking lot, the security guard spent a lot of time chatting instead of watching over things. The hotel also wasn't as close to fun as I wanted; it took 15 minutes or more to get somewhere enjoyable.
