Super 8 Hudson

The pool and hot tub were otherwise good, though the ceiling had problems. Outside, the table and grill area was very dirty and covered in cigarette butts. My room was filthy, with large clumps of hair in the tub and carpets and hard surfaces that badly needed cleaning. When I returned in the late afternoon, the bed hadn't been made and nothing had been cleaned. I pointed to the room placard saying beds were made daily and cleaning and towels were available on request. The front desk response was, “We don't do that until you leave.” You have to call the desk phone to get someone at the front desk, and he acted like we were bothering him. There was nonstop banging overhead and in the halls, with children running around and throwing things. I called the office at 10:45 pm. He said he didn't know what he could do, so I suggested he ask them to stop. It was still happening around 11:45. I won't return.

Our family rents at least 12 rooms for two nights for our yearly reunion, but this hotel wanted to charge $20-$40 per hour to use the empty breakfast room in the evening for cards. Other places in Hudson, WI have always let us use that space. We'll pick a different hotel next year. The common areas had overflowing garbage, and our room corners were dirty, with pretzel bits from a previous guest, dust, and fur balls. There was never anyone at the front desk, so you had to call, and it was clearly a bother for them to look after guests. The vending machine took our money, with no way to recover it.

The check-in staff were friendly and helpful, and the pool and hot tub area was nice. But for nearly $160 a night, this was a horrible stay and I wouldn't come back. The carpets were stained, with sticky patches, and there were red and brown marks all over the walls. The sheets, blankets, and pillows all seemed unwashed. We had to buy our own sheets and blankets just to feel comfortable sleeping in the beds. I don't recommend staying here.

The staff were kind and courteous when I lost my wallet and needed time to sort out my finances with my bank back on the west coast. I also appreciated the veterans' parking spot close to the door. I grew up in Hudson but hadn't been back in 20 years, and the motel has expanded along with the city. It now has a pool, hot tub, and a large breakfast area with plenty of tasty, nutritious choices. I enjoyed my stay enough to add two nights, and I'll definitely stay here again.
