I was surprised by how much I liked this place. I needed somewhere to rest during a 14-hour daytime layover in Houston, and the room and bathroom were very clean. The receptionist welcomed me warmly. Free water, coffee, hot water, and snacks were available, which I really needed. One thing to know: if you're very sensitive to road noise, this may be tough, since the hotel is right beside a major road.

The rooms and amenities are about what you'd expect from a solid three-star chain hotel, and the bathrooms and showers have been nicely modernized. The staff have been awesome, and the location is great, close to restaurants and major grocery stores, with downtown Houston only a short drive away. Pets are allowed for $20 per pet per day, and the small patch of lawn just outside the property worked perfectly for my dog. When we first pulled up, the place looked a little rough around the edges, but we're happy this is going to be our regular spot for stays in humble tx. Someone did a smart renovation in a prime location. We were especially pleased with the restroom, since its condition can make or break a vacation for us. Great job Palace Inn, and please take care of that cleaning staff, they're getting it done!

The kind staff really did try, and there was a clean room, a free snack bar with granola bars, oatmeal, water, and Gatorade, plus good TV with plenty of kids' channels and Bob's burgers on three channels. But the sleep was awful. The bed felt like an air mattress, all three pillows were flat, and there were no extra blankets in the room. Hot water took forever, the shower was overly pressurized with a poor nozzle, and the AC made things damp. Highway noise was awful from just 20 feet away, and the road lights came through because the curtains wouldn't close. The planes were loud too, but I expected that, so that part wasn't really an issue. Other guests were incredibly rude. We woke to people yelling at each other, a drunk woman singing outside, and someone idling a diesel truck or sports car by our window. In room 106, the outlets and light on the left side of the bed didn't work. The other outlets had childproof interiors that kept pushing our chargers out, so charging was a problem. The coffee was sludge, and my husband said the slushies tasted like watered-down beach drinks. I thought the glowing four- and five-star reviews meant this place would be good, but it sucked for us. The pet fee was quoted as $20, then turned out to be $20 per night, making it more expensive than better hotels. Save yourself the trouble unless you have no choice. After I posted my review, someone from the hotel called our room to ask why I hadn't asked the desk for extra pillows or a blanket and why I'd left a bad review, which somehow made it sound like my fault. I've never had to ask for those things at a hotel; extras have always been in the room. She said they kept them in the lobby. She apologized for the confusion about the pet rate but didn't offer a refund. It's frustrating because my dog was quieter and cleaner than the drunks next door and the smokers upstairs. They asked whether we wanted to switch rooms or if they could do anything to improve the stay, but we were leaving the next day after not sleeping for two days. Nothing could fix the drunk guests, the cars idling outside, or the curtains that didn't block the light. All the rooms are the same, so moving wouldn't change things. I can see how they get four-star reviews because they do try, but those reviews tricked me into staying, and I wanted to be honest despite the staff calling. I attached a screenshot showing that they never offered to refund the pet fee misunderstanding. After we left, I dropped the rating to one star. I was too scared to change it while we were still there. It was wildly inappropriate for them to call and beg me to change my review. No. It feels like they've bullied other guests into lying for a two-star hotel. This place only makes sense if you can't stay anywhere else, need a room for less than a night before a red-eye, or need daytime lodging between flights. The only way they'd have made it right was to refund $40 of the pet fee. Room 212 had its door propped open and people chain-smoked weed and cigarettes; it was directly above us. You're telling me my clean dog is more trouble to clean up after than chain smokers?

We had a pleasant stay, and the rooms were clean and okay. Being close to the airport means the occasional loud plane overhead. Unfortunately, there isn't an airport shuttle.

The rooms were clean, the rate was good, and the location was close to where we needed to go. Service was excellent. I needed an email printed for a meeting the next day, and the gentleman in the office kindly did it for me.
