Best Western Chocolate Inn at the Park

The front desk staff were friendly, the air conditioner worked well, and the beds were fairly comfortable. The first morning’s breakfast was good, though the second day’s was a little slack, apparently because of staffing. There’s no outdoor seating at all right now, which they said was due to the renovation. The entrance also has no sign, so it can be a little hard to find. I looked at the renovated seventh floor, and it was stunning. Maybe guests there are lucky enough to get room service. We were told about the renovation when booking, but not that there would be no room service. We didn’t get any the previous night, and at checkout they apologized and said they were short-staffed because of the work. I understand renovations take effort, but if rooms are being sold, there should be enough staff to clean them and look after guests. I wouldn’t book here again. The rooms are very dated, the carpet is dirty, and our room was only semi-clean. The breakfast may improve in summer, but for our stay the lack of service was a dealbreaker.

Friendly, personable people at the front desk, and it’s easy to get to The Hershey attractions. The hotel is under renovation, though, and there was construction dirt and debris in the areas we passed through. A strong smell, possibly generator exhaust, drifted through the halls and elevator. For what you get, I thought the price was high.

The staff were kind and friendly, which is why I gave this two stars. It’s also conveniently close to Hershey and other restaurants. The state of the place still felt unacceptable, though, even knowing renovations have been going on for months. There were open ceilings, exposed wires, and unopened boxes stacked around, and the whole place seemed chaotic. Paint was peeling, the elevator was dirty, and the pool had green algae along its sides. The beds were awful, hard but bouncy. As we were leaving, we found a random shoe under the bed that wasn’t ours. The renovation work could be managed much better.

The people were so nice, and Carol, who coordinated breakfast, did a beautiful job. The food was delicious and kept clean throughout. The location was great, and we had a nice time and made the best of the construction mess. When the renovation is finished, it may not be as affordable. The bathroom floor and sink weren’t clean, which I found hard to forgive. The heat was also tricky to control, swinging between too hot and not warm enough. There were plenty of towels, at least.
