Comfort Suites Southport

We rented three rooms, and my brother-in-law woke up with a bed bug bite. I don't think it was an infestation since only one of the rooms was affected, but it might have come from whoever stayed there before us. The response was awful. First they said there'd be no refund, then they refunded only that room, not the other two. Staff were rude even though we initially tried to be discreet. They called the police, implied my sister had brought the bug, wouldn't let us speak to a manager, and refused to give us a corporate number. We were told corporate couldn't handle it anyway because the hotels are independently owned and operated. The rest of the stay wasn't good either: no extra blankets or pillows for the pullout couches, water leaking down a bathroom wall, long black hairs on a top sheet, ripped and very worn comforters, and uncomfortable mattresses. The pool safety handle was broken and coming out of the ground. Terrible experience.

The hotel was noisy, and we were hoping for a little peace and comfort after a terrible ordeal and a family loss. My daughters and I didn't get that. When there was confusion over my extension, Patsy banged on the door and yelled that we had to leave immediately. I've never been treated so poorly. You can be firm and still be kind. Anthony at the front desk was really kind, as was another gentleman, but the cleaning staff weren't very friendly either. Cleanliness itself was good. Breakfast was standard cafeteria fare, with waffles, eggs, cereal, muffins, and sausages. Prices went from about $62 on weekdays to around $100 on weekends, and the bed was too firm for me.

It's the people here who really make the place. Everyone I've dealt with has been welcoming and never made me feel like a bother. No issues with any employees, and the breakfast was decent, with the woman looking after it doing a good job. I slept well, and the showers were nice and hot with great pressure. There's plenty around this location too. Thanks, everyone. I'm sure I'll come back.

There was coffee available around the clock, and the rooms were clean and looked like the pictures, with a few small differences. The staff were helpful and professional throughout. The night clerk was especially polite and had great customer service, a good example for others to follow. Morning staff were helpful and polite too.
