We got a newer room, 249, on the second floor while a major hotel upgrade was underway. It was clean, quiet, set back from the elevators, and looked out over the courtyard. The small kitchen was well equipped and the refrigerator was a good size, with complimentary microwave popcorn too. The regular coffee maker didn’t work very well, though we’re more used to a single-use one. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the heat and AC had a deflector to keep air from blowing straight onto the curtains. The staff were very nice and suggested local restaurants and activities. Social hour had free beer and wine and light snacks. It was Italian night, with meatballs, arancini, and Tuscan-style bread. Breakfast was very good, with a yogurt bar, fresh coffee, waffles to make yourself, tea, juice, a few cereals, and lots of scones. The lobby and breakfast area were comfortable, and there’s a nice den with cozy chairs and a couch facing a huge TV. The location worked well for us, just north of the outer belt, near Carmel Center for the Chriskindlemarkt and only minutes from lots of restaurants and stores. We arrived around six on Wednesday while social night Bingo was happening, so the desk was a little slow. Check-in itself was straightforward. I was a bit disappointed not to get an upgrade with my Platinum Elite status, especially since I checked afterward and saw several larger rooms available for our dates.

My brother and his wife rented a room here, and I thought it was fantastic. It felt cozy, with a built-in kitchen, microwave, fridge, stovetop, and a little living room tucked away with a big-screen TV. There were also two full-size beds and another nice TV. I could easily live in a room like that myself. The coffee maker could use an upgrade, maybe a $20 single-serving Keurig.

I felt at home even while away, especially chatting with the social hour hosts, who were wonderful. On Wednesdays there’s bingo, where you can meet people and win prizes. I also appreciated the food, particularly at social hour, before and after work. All the services were timely, attentive, and professional, and the rooms were nice and well cared for. I loved my stay at staybridge in Carmel.

Even on a one-night visit, the place made a great impression. The room was laid out efficiently, with an apartment-size fridge, two-burner cooktop, dishes, dishwasher, and pots and pans. The walk-in shower was really large, and the towels were nice and fluffy. We caught a glimpse of breakfast starting but had to leave before it was served. If all Staybridges are like this, they’ll rank high for me.

The Wednesday social hour bingo, hosted by sales director Ashley, was my favorite part of staying at the Staybridge Suites in Carmel. It’s not your grandma’s bingo. Guests and their families can join, and the prizes are great, from IHG Reward points to local gift cards. I’m writing from Cambridge, UK, where I’m staying free at an IHG property thanks in part to points I won at bingo. The best evenings are when the room is packed and everyone cheers for the winners. The rooms and staff were fantastic too, and I highly recommend putting social hour bingo on your calendar if you stay at this terrific hotel.
