Best Western Amador Inn

The room was clean and well appointed, and it was reasonably quiet. The Denny's next door has closed. Still, things felt peachy enough aside from the open upstairs and downstairs hallway doors, which apparently weren’t locked for security, and the guy smoking a lot of dope on the stairwell landing, with the smell drifting through the halls. I’ve stayed at Best Western, Jackson twice before. This time, I was uneasy and would give it 4 out of 5. At check-in, we were put on the second floor, so I asked whether there was an elevator. The clerk said no. I asked, “Oh, no ADA compliance?” He asked what that was. I explained it’s the law that assures access for people with limited mobility. He replied, “we are historical.” Right, from the 1980s maybe, not the 1880s. I think Hotels.com should mention the lack of elevator in its listing. The clerk didn’t offer to look for a downstairs room, and that was that. Fortunately, my mobility issues aren’t critical yet, but the experience changed my impression of the place.

I’ve worked in the Jackson area for 14 years and stayed at all the hotels. This one has the best staff, prices, and management. They’ve made it feel safe and welcoming for everyone who stays. If you’re trying to decide where to stay in Jackson, this is your place.

Breakfast had eggs, potatoes, bacon, bagels, bread, and mini muffins, and it was good. Fresh fruit was missing, though, and the yogurt dispenser didn't have any yogurt. The room was in good shape, but we spotted a few insects on the floor or furniture, so pest control could use more attention. Check-in was easy. I'm a BW Rewards member, but Priceline offered me a lower rate.

The room was never cleaned while we were out for hours. When I called, the front desk first suggested we'd left the “Do Not Disturb” sign up, which we hadn't. Then I was told housekeeping had to be requested, though no one mentioned that at check-in, there was nothing about it in the room, and it wasn't in the hotel information. When I questioned the policy, the explanation changed. Their website says daily housekeeping is offered, which contradicted what we were told. They eventually offered to send someone late in the afternoon, but only if we left the room, and we were already settled in. The early check-in conversation was frustrating too. We arrived before 3 PM and asked whether the room was ready. They said check-in wasn't until 3, and only after I asked again did they confirm it was ready and mention the $33 early check-in fee. We were willing to pay, but it felt like we were bothering them, and the option wasn't offered until we pressed. I asked to speak to a manager and was told none was on duty, but one would be in at 8 AM. At checkout I asked again and was then told no manager would be in until the afternoon. I requested a call, but haven't heard from anyone. The inconsistent information and lack of accountability made a disappointing stay much more stressful than it needed to be. I hope management takes a serious look at how these situations are handled.
