I’ve had mixed feelings about This Place, mostly because of an incident with the owners’ son. His dog was sweet and social, but when I stayed there with my dog Piper, who isn’t comfortable with people or animals coming close to me, I kept Piper leashed and close by. I’d seen the other dog before, while scouting the place and having lunch by the lake, and assumed the owner would keep it away from us. Instead, the son pulled up with a car full of friends and his dog rushed at us. My dog went into protective mode. They tangled briefly, but I managed it and the other dog ran back to him. He and his friends just stared, so I told him he needed to control his dog and use a leash if he couldn’t. I said dogs could get hurt, and so could anyone nearby. He yelled vulgar things back, grabbing himself, while his friends joined in. I went over to confront them, and he was arrogant and unapologetic even though he was in the wrong. It left such a bad taste that I started packing to leave. The owners arrived, very apologetic, and I felt bad for them. I understand the son had been living in another building because they couldn’t have him living with them anymore, but that arrangement wasn’t going well. He was a real class act. We stayed once or twice more and never saw him again, thankfully. I hope he’s straightened up or moved on and stopped being such a leech to the couple who work way too hard to deal with an ungrateful, entitled punk. The place itself isn’t really bad. It was right at the start of Covid, when things were hitting hard all around, and the owners live nearby and run and clean the place themselves. They have lives, so they’re not there 24/7, though I think they try to be around more when guests are staying. The rooms were clean with no creepy crawlies, and I loved the peace and quiet. Nobody really bothered us, and most of our stays were pleasant and uneventful. The location is great, right in town by the lake. I had to jump in and grab my dog when she didn’t realize it was a lake and tried to walk on it, lol. They also have a few spots with power for RVs to park overnight, facing the lake, which is nice. All in all, I’d go back and recommend it.
