Best Western Plus Jackson/Cape Girardeau

We were tired and stayed anyway, but now my back hurts from the cheap mattress. We searched for BestWestern in Jackson, Mo, and the result took us to this hotel. Google Maps led us there, but when we arrived it was a LaQuinta Inn. The website still has pictures of a BW.

It was a nice place overall, and I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the hotel was. We were told it had recently been remodeled, and it was perfectly placed for getting on and off the freeway. We stayed one night on the way to Fort Smith Arkansas. The disappointment was having several club baseball and basketball teams of teen girls staying there too. They were loud late into the night. In the morning, one mother was doing her daughter's hair in the breakfast area. I don't know whether the parents or hotel were more at fault. Maybe the hotel could ask if guests are traveling with teams and put other guests farther from the young people.

This is clearly a place to get a clean, fresh bed for the night, not a resort, so you'll need to find things to do around town. A big plus for us was being just a mile or two past the interstate from the newer sports complex, the closest hotel for sure. It had only opened ten days earlier, and everything was bright and smelled new. The staff were friendly and accommodating, though it makes sense that some kinks were still being worked out. The pool wasn't open, and the full breakfast hadn't started. I actually appreciated that, since lots of people hadn't handled the food. They offered grab-and-go bags, with muffins, Kind bars, an orange or apple, a small water bottle, and juice, plus the option to add more. A quick phone call before booking to ask about the pool and current breakfast choices meant we weren't surprised by the changes due to the virus. We'd recommend it for an overnight stop.

The rooms are spacious, quiet, and very clean, and the exercise area is nice. Service, though, was bad. The afternoon staff member was rude about the shoe rules in common areas. She repeated them to my wife after telling me, then came into the pool area while we were swimming to ask again whether we had shoes. I'd already told her we always wear shoes because going barefoot is nasty. I've never had anyone come into the pool area just to check that. We'd smile and say hello and get no response, and she had a nasty attitude when we needed something. Great place, bad service.
