The location is awesome, right in downtown Jackson, but not much else was good. Our room had a balcony, yet the room itself was closet-sized. We waited two hours for dinner at the restaurant downstairs, and it never arrived. In the morning, we went down for breakfast and got charged $30. You'd think it would be free for guests. The breakfast “buffet” ran out of food after we went through, so the other paying guests had to wait for more to be cooked lol.
The bar downstairs really made the stay. It was a fun place to have a few drinks and stumble back upstairs. Carl, the bartender, was the absolute best, really fun, made great drinks, and worked so hard even though it was busy. He deserves a raise. The food was great, especially the steak medallions! We had a great one-night visit, from check-in to check-out. The rooms were super clean, with high-end toiletries and heated bathroom floors. Not sure if every room has them or just the honeymoon suite. The city-view patios are shared across the second floor, not private. That was fine, kind of cool. This was the first hotel TV I'd seen with all the streaming services available. Some needed a login, but HBO was free.
I felt welcome and well looked after from the moment I arrived at the National Hotel in Jackson. The restored building keeps its 19th-century character while still feeling warm and comfortable. My room was spotless and cozy, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and there was a real sense of calm and history to the place. Ian and Kara deserve a special thank you for going above and beyond. Their kindness, professionalism, and genuine hospitality made me feel valued and at home. They shared local stories and checked that I had everything I needed. The stay was unforgettable, and I'll definitely return. This hotel is a real gem in the heart of Jackson.
There was no microwave or refrigerator in the room, but the front desk said they'd store something chilled for us if needed. We were in room 304, a king bed with a whirlpool. The wardrobe appeared locked and wouldn't open, so we had nowhere to hang our jackets. The bed was comfortable, though. Noise from the hall came right through the door, and the air filter probably needs changing since the thermostat said "Replace filter". We'd stay again, as those were minor issues. We overslept and missed breakfast, so we hope to try it next time. I was a Diamond member and stayed for one night after a day of snowboarding. The location was convenient, and the staff were friendly and accommodating, including Ian at the front desk and Holly serving at The Duke restaurant.
The restaurant and bar are cozy, and the food and drinks were tasty. I also liked how easy it was to park and how many places to eat, drink, and shop were within walking distance. The hotel has a lovely historic feel with modern rooms, including heated bathroom floors that were especially nice in winter. The front desk staff were helpful around the clock.
