Courtyard by Marriott Jacksonville Butler Boulevard

The staff were friendly and polite, and the hotel seemed clean at check-in. But the third floor smelled like sewage, and the odor got stronger near my room. I arrived late and just wanted to shower and rest. The room phone was damaged and didn’t work. In the morning I told the front desk and maintenance. They acknowledged the smell, and I believe they sprayed odor ban in the hallway while we were out. When we got back that evening, it was still there. The night auditor said she could smell it too and would email the manager. I even bought candles to cover it up, but the manager never contacted me during the stay. After I got home, I called and was connected to the manager, Shawn, but he sent my calls straight to voicemail. Marriott Customer Service told me he was refusing compensation or credit for the inconvenience and denying there had been a smell. They also said that because I booked through Priceline, they wouldn’t assist me in any way. This isn’t how customer service should work. I spent my hard-earned money hoping to get a good night’s rest, and a manager who I believe is lying about this shouldn’t expect customers to trust him. Marriott Customer Service said their hands were tied because of the manager’s dishonesty. I’d tell people to choose another hotel. The food is expensive, and nothing is included with the stay.

The AC unit was a bit loud, but otherwise I had no issues and slept well. The room was immaculate, with a comfortable bed, nice pillows, and blackout curtains, and there was little traffic noise. I called the front desk for extra linens for the sofa bed, and they arrived right away. I was impressed by the service and my stay at Courtyard by Marriott.

I especially enjoyed the balcony and the view from it. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and pretty decent overall. My only gripe was that the pool water could’ve been cleaner, which took away a little from the experience since I love swimming. Still, I had a great stay and would definitely recommend the hotel.

The staff were wonderful, friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our pleasant stay at the Courtyard by Marriott Jacksonville Butler Blvd. The service made a great impression, and I’d still consider staying again. A few things could be improved. The gym is small and needs upgrades. It has only three treadmills, and one was out of order, so we had to wait for equipment. I also wish we’d been told when booking that the parking lot was being repaved. There was just one entrance and exit, which made access difficult in our large 4x4 truck. We had to drive over the curb or orange cones to get in. The elevator also needs attention. Its wall paneling was bowed out, and it made a loud whirring noise going to the upper floors, which was a bit concerning.
