I loved my stay at Fairfield Hotel. The room was spacious, very clean, and the beds were super comfortable. I only wish the blanket had been thicker. Staff were polite, and breakfast was delicious. We had English muffins with Swiss and egg, plus bacon, cereal, yogurt, oatmeal, and mini waffles. I checked in late, and the front desk employee was accommodating. They checked me in online and explained that I’d be fine keeping my reservation as long as I arrived before 12am. Checkout at 12 pm was convenient too. I’d rate the stay 9/10.
The room was clean, comfortable, and nice, so I was happy at first. But I left a large lighted magnifying mirror there and called the hotel on checkout day. They said it wasn’t in the room, which had been cleaned but was still vacant, or in lost and found, and that they’d leave a note for housekeeping. I have to assume someone thought I’d left it for them to keep. It wasn’t some tiny item that could easily go unnoticed. I’m disappointed and don’t think the staff care about their customers.
The rooms look nice, the fitness center was clean, and Marriott’s products and linens are good quality. You get the basics for a comfortable stay, and the location worked for my business trip. It might be an okay place to camp out for the Kansas City renfaire. I’d give it around three or 3.5 stars, though I usually stay at Westin and courtyard location, so maybe this is just how Fairfield models are built. The whole building is so noisy. The floors and walls echo, so you hear doors and footsteps overhead, which can keep you awake if you’re sensitive to sound. The AC clicked on and off all night with no steady low fan setting, and even after we lowered the temperature 2 to 3°, it had been raised again by morning. The hallway was stuffy and damp when we arrived. Nobody had told the desk, and with so few staff, there seemed to be no one available to check on things. Only one person covered the desk overnight, leaving no one else to help if you needed something. Breakfast was bare minimum and mediocre. I wouldn’t recommend the tasteless eggs. Bagels were okay, and the coffee was all right but burnt. I’m willing to pay more for enough staff and decent amenities. Paying people well would show in the experience.
At 1:42am I’m writing this from room 202 at the Fairfield “suites.” My wife booked it because it was near the venue for my daughter’s gymnastics meet. The place is clean overall, and the staff were nice, but it was fully booked, so we got a queen room with a pullout couch. That couch is awful. The thin mattress and apparently bent frame have me shaped like a banana, with bars pressing at my head and ankles. I complained at the desk, but I know they were booked and the guy couldn’t do much. He offered another comforter. A couch bed shouldn’t even be in this room when there’s space for another bed. We’re paying TWO HUNDRED AND FOURTY DOLLARS for this. If you’re offered the pullout as an option, go elsewhere. At least my wife and kid are comfortable in the bed.
I was charged $600 too much for a 2 night stay. The booking was meant to be at a group rate, but they added an extra night for no reason. I can’t get the GM to call back to explain the charge or arrange a refund. This is crazy. Be careful booking here!
