Quality Inn I-70 Near Kansas Speedway

The room was spacious, and the important areas were clean. The fridge and freezer were a good size, so I could fit a bag of ice from the gas station next door. Breakfast was okay, though I had to hunt through drawers and cabinets for forks and spoons after already asking them to put out more napkins. The green chair was disgustingly dirty, the desk chair was in such bad shape someone could get hurt falling off it, and the 15 TV stations sucked. The only ice maker was out of ice or broken, despite the front desk saying it worked and offering no help. I really wish hotels would get rid of carpet, it’s so gross. The whole building smelled strongly of weed in the evenings, even though it’s meant to be smoke-free. We drove at least 20 minutes to everything we did, so I can’t speak to the area beyond it being convenient to I70. I was glad to get my deposit back already after reading about others having trouble. Still, there were several surprises. The pool and hot tub were closed, and reviews make it look like this may be a long-running issue, perhaps closed for at least a solid year. That’s disappointing when the amenity is part of what you pay for. The $100 deposit caught me off guard too. This seems to be something only private owners of Choice Hotels do, and I tend to avoid them because they make their own rules. They also photocopied my driver’s license, a rule not listed on the website or app, saying there’d been a past incident involving the cops and they now do this for all guests. He assured me it would be shredded in 3-4 months, as if that would put me at ease. Note to self: read everything when booking and call ahead about listed amenities.

We drove from Michigan, already exhausted, and were HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED. The hallways smelled strongly of mold, and once we got into the room the mold smell was even worse. It affected my breathing and eyes badly by the time we left. The room was disgusting, and the bathroom door had been ripped up and screwed back together. At check-in they wanted a deposit, and the elevator was out. I asked for a ground-floor room because I’m disabled and that seemed a reasonable accommodation, but they refused. While we carried all our luggage up the stairs, water dripped on us from the ceiling. Then the housekeeper said the elevator was working again. They were supposed to discount our stay but never did. They kept saying the manager, "Patel", wasn’t available. This place needs to be closed down. Avoid it like the plague.

The location was good, though leaving means making a U-turn to get back to the interstate, and there’s no sign to tell you. The parking lot is small, overflowing with trash, and raccoons were hanging around. The pool was closed, and the inside wasn’t clean. My room wasn’t clean either: stained comforters, hair on the pillows, and smelly bedding. The shower faucet was coming away from the wall, and the shower curtain was moldy and gross. I had to go back downstairs every time I used my key because they needed to reset it. They gave me two keys, but only one worked. Be ready for a $100 incidental charge and a photocopy of your driver’s license. I’d booked two nights and left after one to stay elsewhere. I wouldn’t recommend it.

No crib for the baby. The pool had been shut down by the health department, and despite the no-smoking rule, the place smelled of smoke. Some alarm went off 20 min in night.
