Hilton Garden Inn Kansas City

We were crossing the country by car and wish we’d picked somewhere else. There were 30-50 children around the hotel without supervision, playing in the stairwells and treating the only working elevator like a playground. The hallways stayed noisy until about 9:30 p.m., and the paid parking felt disappointing for the quality. We’d been hoping for a restful stop, and it wasn’t one.

The staff were friendly, which was about the only thing going for the place. Neither bed was quiet; they creaked whenever someone moved at night, and the window rattled until morning. Breakfast cost extra but was worse than many free hotel breakfasts. The area felt a little sketchy, the rooms weren’t cleaned between nights, and several rooms had toilet plumbing issues.

This was a pretty odd Hilton Garden Inn. The rooms looked fairly updated and clean, though they still felt a little dirty. The location wasn’t great, with lots of homeless people constantly passing by, and it felt sketchy. Having a parking garage was nice, but the setup was still kind of strange. I felt itchy at night, so I hope there weren’t bed bugs, though I can’t say for sure. The pillows also weren’t as comfortable as at other Garden Inns.

The arrival was off to a rough start. The receptionist didn’t address us until we came up to the counter, then charged us and handed over key cards without even pointing us toward our room. Only one elevator worked, with a paper arrow stuck on the button. Its doors opened slowly, and the floor was dirty and broken. Our room was hot, the bathroom door came within inches of the fire sprinkler, the bed sounded like it might collapse whenever we moved, and the TV remote barely worked. The pool was hot and not very clean, with mold and gross tape on the door. Parking was only in a garage known for break-ins. It wasn’t an awful stay overall, but we won’t return. This wasn’t the Hilton quality I expected from the listing. I’d stay elsewhere if you can.
