Homewood Suites by Hilton Kansas City-Airport

The heating system’s air conditioner is extremely loud. I couldn’t rest without earplugs, and even with them it was uncomfortable. The insulation is poor: the temperature drops five degrees in ten minutes, and the windows are basically decorative. The pictures on the walls feel depressing. I don’t understand when hotels stopped trying to help guests relax with their art. They should invest in more uplifting pieces. I did like the furniture quality. It’s outdated, but comfortable, with light brown colors and no grey. Hospitality and service felt like a five out of ten. I visited Homewood suites North Carolina Greensboro and gave it a ten, and the Springfield Homewood was a seven for cleanliness, hospitality, and comfort. I really like Homewood Suites in general, but this one needs to be more hospitable and put up more uplifting pictures. Thank you. Regards, Elisabeth

The room was spacious and comfortable, but this was a poor hotel experience for my business trip. The walls are paper thin, so normal-volume conversation carries right through. The air conditioner was noisy, surging to an incredible volume for a minute at regular intervals and waking me repeatedly. On the first night, strong wind made a terrible whining sound at the window. The bedroom curtains wouldn’t close all the way, either. With a street lamp right outside, the room couldn’t be darkened, so I had to sleep wearing a blindfold. The “fitness center” was laughable, just one bike, two treadmills, and a few free weights. Breakfast was fine, and I appreciated the free drinks and snacks around dinner on Wednesdays. Being right by the airport is useful, but there are lots of hotels around there, and surely many are better.

The breakfast was genuinely good, a tasty start to the day, but it couldn’t make up for a poor night’s sleep or the many room problems. For $150, this stay was disappointing and not worth it. The sink wouldn’t drain, there was no body wash in the shower, the curtains were visibly dirty, and the loose or broken-feeling door knobs made the doors unreliable. The AC fan was so loud that sleeping was difficult. Parking and the way it was handled were frustrating too. After I’d paid $150 for the room, they tried to add $13 for parking, which I hadn’t seen mentioned on Hotels.com where I booked. The representative removed it when I raised the issue, but then argued about parking on their property and said it was my responsibility wherever I parked. With the maintenance problems and unhelpful staff, I can’t recommend this hotel at this price.

I travel with disinfectant wipes, thankfully, because the toilet was visibly dirty. There was hair on the hand towels, and the room door barely shut and locked. It looked like someone might have kicked it open before. The bed frame sticks out too far at the bedside, so you’re likely to bang your shin on it once. The hotel and room had an unpleasant smell I can’t really describe. This is the worst Homewood Suites I’ve stayed at, and it’s overpriced. Overnight parking is $13, and you have to register your plate via QR code or website, which is super inconvenient. I’ve had better stays at Hilton Sparks for nearly half the price. Hilton should be ashamed of the quality, or lack of it, this hotel offers its valued gold honors members.
