We weren't told about the major renovations until the day we checked in, even though work had started well before we booked and there was no notice anywhere. We were told parking would be restricted and the water would be off for 7.5 hours every day. Finding another hotel at the last minute was very difficult, so we had to stay. The room was in terrible shape. We booked one with a couch, but got a heavily stained chair instead. Water leaked from the ceiling, bubbled behind the paint, and ran over the carpet. The toilet seat was coming loose and the toilet ran constantly. There was hair on the pillows, the floors were dirty, and our keys randomly stopped working before checkout. Staff were nice, but ownership and management failed this hotel.

The breakfast had bread, bagels, yogurt, butter, cream cheese, jam, coffee, and tea. The hotel is just a two-minute walk from the streetcar station, with good pubs and bars nearby. I felt safe, and the main entrance is closed from 10 PM to 10 AM, so only key holders can get in. Our room was clean and nice, with the charm of an old building, though the toilet flush was quite weak. All the staff were kind and really nice. We liked staying here.

The front desk staff were extremely nice and helpful, and the location is ideal. Renovations should be beneficial, but the noise was disappointing for current guests. I was told it would be limited to 9-5, which I took to mean weekdays, but construction woke me at 8am on a Saturday and carried on well past 5pm. It felt inconsiderate of the people staying at the hotel.

The room was decent and quiet, and the front desk staff were friendly and really helpful. For a last-minute stay, the price felt reasonable. I just wish there’d been a hot breakfast and more parking.
