Kauai Shores Hotel

We had a lovely beach area, a lawn with yard games, and bikes we could use to explore. A short boardwalk follows the beachfront, great for walking or biking. The location made it easy to head either west or north, and the grounds and landscaping were beautiful and immaculate. Parking can be tight, but complimentary valet is available if you can’t find a spot. Our room was very clean, the beds were comfortable, and we had an ocean view from the lanai. Since this was our second week in the islands, having laundry facilities was especially nice. Lava Lava Beach Club was a bonus. We celebrated our 40th anniversary there with a candlelight dinner on the beach. We’d definitely stay again.

There are shops and restaurants within walking distance, so you could manage without a car, though I’d recommend one for seeing the island. This was a great base for sightseeing, and we appreciated the complimentary valet since parking can be tight. It’s an older hotel that’s been updated recently. Our room looked very clean, but had a musty smell. I think it may be age-related, though that first impression cost it a star. The beds were comfortable and the shower had great pressure. We liked the lanai, the Kauai coffee in the room, and the refillable bottles with filtered water. Laundry onsite was $4 per load. Service was friendly, and the onsite restaurant was good and convenient. We saw two pools, a hot tub, a nice beach out front, and bikes, umbrellas, and lawn games available.

We stayed in Lani 264, a Garden Room, which was great. It wasn’t near a stairwell, and we could see the ocean in the distance. Ideally, you’d get at least a garden view facing toward the ocean, unless you book an ocean view room. The room was clean, with a great shower and plenty of luggage space, and we liked the building and room layout. The location on the island suited us well, and all the staff were kind and did their jobs well. The food was very good, though expensive as you’d expect. Lava Lava Beach Club is on the property, and the music there was great.

You can borrow a bike and ride six miles each way on the paved coastal trail, and there are coffee shops and restaurants nearby. That gives you a lot of freedom to explore on foot, instead of being stuck without a car like at many resorts. The rooms were ultra clean and looked recently updated. The hotel is right on one of Kauai’s best beaches, with a small pool and hot tub. Lava Lava restaurant serves incredible food and drinks right on the beach. This hotel is perfect.
