SpringHill Suites Houston Katy Mills

The front desk staff were friendly, but the room made our family trip a disaster. Traveling with a 2-year-old is tiring already, and the damp air and loud AC kept me awake all night. The humidity also triggered a painful eczema flare-up. I was put in room 229, which the website described as around 400 sq ft. It felt much smaller and completely suffocating. The air smelled moldy, and the room stayed damp and humid. The PTAC window AC rattled and shook the room without stopping. Even set to 60F, it still felt like 70F or more. For the price, you’d be better off at a nearby modern high-rise with central AC and proper moisture control. Avoid this place if sleep matters to you.

The afternoon staff on Mar 21 were efficient, personable, and professional, and the room was clean and nice. It’s convenient getting on and off IH-10, and the Bonvoy property was fairly priced. I was only there a few hours. At 5:15am on Mar 22, I had an odd exchange with a staff member. He told me there was no coffee, then raised his voice and yelled several times that I needed to go to the counter to check out instead of just giving him my room number and name as I passed. He said app checkout wasn’t available. He had no tag on and had come in from the parking lot while I was looking for coffee, so I wasn’t sure he worked there until he walked behind the desk. I was in room 126 from 3/21-3/22.

The hotel needs a major renovation. Our room smelled of mold, there was visible mold in the bathroom, the carpets had deep stains, and the walls were so thin we could hear everything our neighbors said. At 7:30 AM, as we were rushing out, our toilet clogged and there was no maintenance staff available. They handed us a plunger and left us to deal with it ourselves. As a Marriott member, I expect a certain standard, and I won’t return. The front desk team deserves five stars for a smooth late-night check-in, and the breakfast was actually quite good. The staff are trying their best, but the property itself is shockingly bad, outdated, and poorly maintained. It can’t compete with other hotels in the area as it is.

Everything was close by, and the rooms were clean and tidy. I spent several nights here, would happily stay again, and highly recommend it for its fantastic location.
