The Colony Hotel

Karen Lawler made the wedding day feel special for my daughter, and I can’t thank her enough. She was personable, easy to work with, organized, responsive, and dedicated to our event. We went over the details by phone and at the venue, and she kept the timing on track throughout the day without missing anything. The Colony itself has lovely old world charm and a beautiful setting. The food and service were excellent, and the event was perfect.

I’d been excited to stay here, so it was a real disappointment. We had no internet for all four days, which also meant no TV, and although I reported it to the front desk every day, nothing was fixed. Nobody explained or apologized, and my request for the GM to be informed got no follow-up. I also had to call on day two to ask for coffee pods and clean towels. Check-in was slow and unfriendly, with no welcome or basic hotel information, not even the WiFi details. Our Cove-side room, chosen for central AC, hadn’t been cleaned properly. I stepped on a contact lens and found a dirty tissue by the bed. This could be a lovely property, but the hospitality and customer experience really fell short. There are nicer hotels nearby, so I wouldn’t spend my money here.

The view from our room was lovely, and that’s the only reason I gave this place one star. The photos online make the interior look much better than it does in person. For $1,000 for two nights, we got rock-hard beds, heat that didn’t work properly, and no room vents for heat or AC. The bathroom was tiny, and there was mold on the shower tile. This place is worth half what they charge. I wouldn’t recommend staying here for the price. Just a heads-up so nobody else spends that much and sleeps terribly for two nights.

The location was ideal for exploring Kennebunkport and getting good meals, and we still enjoyed our Maine visit. But the Colony let us down. We stayed in the Cove for central AC, yet the internet and TV didn’t work for our whole trip. We called twice about it, and nobody resolved the problem. There was a contact lens on our floor and used tissues under the bed. The room below ours, where the rest of our party stayed, had stained carpet. We were extremely disappointed with the service and condition of the accommodations. Hopefully management takes better care of the rooms in the future.
