El Trovatore Motel

We were on our Rt. 66 bucket list trip when we stayed here a few years ago. The motel’s vintage style was a favorite, with each room themed around a star from that era. We got the John Wayne room. It was a clean, friendly, and quiet place to stay, and I’ll definitely return.

The bed was comfortable, water pressure was good, and the microwave and fridge both worked. It’s in a great location. If you just need something basic and functional, this hotel is okay. The room is definitely old, the bathroom feels like a tiny closet, and there’s no light in the shower. We also found a huge cockroach.

We found a new place where we can smoke outside, pay less, and are much happier. I’ll never recommend this motel to anyone. It was filthy and disgusting. The fridge froze everything and left water on the floor every morning, and we were also promised a microwave when we moved into the apartment. Sam and Monica complain about everything, but don’t do anything to improve the motel. I think the place needs to be condemned. They have a pool and refuse to fix it. They were charging $850 for the month, and I feel they should put money into fixing the place up instead. It’s an eyesore in Kingman. I’m about ready to take Sam to small claims court, though it feels like a waste of time. They should sell the motel and retire, because they’re not improving anything. We rented an apartment from Sam and weren’t happy that he kept $100 of our deposit. We were allowed to smoke in the room, but he complained about the smell. He called the blinds new, but they were dirty and sun-damaged, and fell apart when touched. He acted like we knew nothing. We improved the apartment, but he complained about that too. The mattress was black and smelled bad, so we got a new one and left the old one behind. He complained when I painted the kitchen and the door. I’d told Sam and John many times the door needed replacing, and the AC was too small for the space. Sam says he furnishes the apartments, but we bought our own table and chairs, a nice set. We left them there, along with a new four-poster bed frame and mattress. We put nice things in to improve the place, and he complained about everything we did or didn’t do. The sewer roaches and the smaller ones were both really bad, and the floor was patched together. We didn’t deserve to be treated the way he treated me and Joe. So what if I painted the kitchen? I thought it looked better. I don’t agree with him keeping our $100 deposit. Good luck, Sam and Monica. I’ll never tell anyone to stay at this dive. Thank you for your time.

I paid in full after making an online reservation in June 2025 for a planned Route 66 trip in May 2026, but an injury forced me to cancel. I tried calling the motel several times and left messages, but nobody called back. For over a month I’ve also tried to cancel by email. I eventually got a reply saying they’d be “happy to refund your money and cancel the reservation” if I provided some information. I sent it on 4/8/26. Despite several follow-up emails, there’s been no further response or refund.
