We were told to use the side door when we came back, but no one gave us the code. When we called for help, the code still didn’t work, and it only let us enter the last three digits. The police couldn’t do anything. Then a very rude woman insisted the codes worked and said we owed for the night. A very unsatisfactory experience.

This was such a distinctive stay. The common areas and rooms had beautiful art and antiques, and the place reminded me of boutique hotels we’ve visited. The room was clean, everything was in good repair, and there was clear attention to detail. What an amazing hotel.

The O'Neil is unlike a regular chain hotel, and my wife and I would happily stay there again if we’re back in the area. We spent two nights there with three friends while celebrating her 40th birthday out of town. Since it used to be a bank, the lobby has a great character, with ornate furniture, interesting pictures, and a beautiful ornate ceiling. The drink station is set in the old vault. Christopher greeted us at the desk and was absolutely delightful, clearly well suited to hospitality. Our rooms were spacious, clean, well equipped, and had nice bathrooms. The location was great too, less than one block from the Chef and the Farmer restaurant.

Pictures can’t capture what it’s like to be inside this unusual hotel. The building has a feeling you really have to experience, and it’s an absolute gem for eastern NC and Kinston. Great food, beverages, and entertainment are just down the street and around the corner. I’ll definitely stay there again if I’m in Kinston overnight.

Mary hosted us that evening and was so kind and accommodating, she made our stay. The O'Neil is a gorgeous, beautifully redone hotel, very clean and a unique place to stay. There’s a great restaurant, the Chef and the Farmer, within walking distance. Check out this gem!
