The staff were friendly and the price was cheap, but I’d drive five miles down the road to Hurricane for a decent room at the same cost. This place needs a full refresh, or even to be torn down and rebuilt. There was so much wrong in our room I could’ve taken 100 pictures: dirty surfaces, bathroom tiles coming off the wall, a bent door that jammed, switches that didn’t work, and a standing closet awkwardly pushed over existing wall art. The hot water took 10 minutes to warm up, the remote had a dead battery, and there were a million other issues. This hotel is third world at best.
The front desk manager was the best part of our stay. He was friendly and professional, and when we called about loud guests next door, he took care of it. Five stars for him. The hotel itself needs some care, and I wouldn’t make it my first choice. Our beds were clean and the pillows okay, but the room smelled like weed when we arrived. There was black mold in the bathroom, and stains and old food on the carpet leading to our room. The walls were extremely thin. Our door also had no runner at the bottom, so hallway light spilled in and we could hear every step outside.
The staff were polite and friendly, and the service was great. The rooms, though, were so dirty that I didn’t want to touch anything. In the shower, I turned on the water and could see dirty water on the floor. Our first room faced the main street and was very loud. The second was a bit quieter but still dirty. I’m very disappointed in Ramada, and especially Wyndham for listing this place as part of its chain when it doesn’t meet its standards. We booked just one night, thankfully, and will never return. Ramada needs to do better.
I left after being alone the last night without my son and found another hotel. As a solo traveler, I didn’t feel safe here and wouldn’t recommend staying alone. The ground-floor windows could easily be opened, there was no security from the outside doors, and the whole drive into the property felt like entering a prison courtyard. There’s still a lone basketball hoop in the parking lot. I later learned it used to be the WWASP school Cross Creek Manor, associated with teenage lockdown and abuse. Google Cross Creek Manor. The new paint and carpet don’t erase the disturbing history, and I felt scared by myself. The online pictures felt deceiving. At check-in after dark, it was hard to figure out where the office was, and restaurant traffic in the middle of the hotel made parking confusing. The layout was a mess, and no one told me where breakfast was served. We left the room from 12 pm to around 8 pm on our first full day, with a do-not-disturb sign on the door. When we returned, there was a strong smell as if someone had used the restroom, though we hadn’t been in the room. The next day, we left at 0730 after I used vanilla body spray. At 1300, the smell was still just as strong. Both times my son asked who had been in there. We’d had the no-service sign up. I don’t know what happened, but the whole vibe felt off.
The room and bathroom were old and in bad shape. The washroom smelled moldy, the carpets were dirty, and we found strands of hair on the restroom towels as soon as we checked in. The hotel felt shady, with a strange vibe as soon as you walked in. I’d pay a little more for the Holiday Inn right next door. Don’t stay here, even for one night. Breakfast was okay, but there were no boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, vegetables or sausages, so no protein. The open box of egg omelette was cold, and when we asked a man in a Ramada shirt about it, he was very rude.
