Disney's All Star Sports Resort

We came back to AllStar Sports Resort for a second visit because we love the whole resort. My 8-year-old grandson and I stayed from late May into early June. The Cast Members are always welcoming, courteous, and friendly. We asked for the “Surfs Up” section and got a room almost directly across from the pool, which was so convenient after a full day at the parks. The food court Cast Members were pleasant and kind, too. Our housekeeper even arranged my grandson's stuffed animals on the bed in sweet little poses. We truly enjoy every part of this resort.

The staff I spoke with were polite and tried to address my concerns, but for the price and the Disney name, I expected a much more comfortable and memorable resort. I left disappointed and would probably choose another hotel for future Orlando trips. The vacation package included the resort, park tickets, dining plan, advertised complimentary water park access, and a kids dining promotion. When I compared the costs, booking everything separately came to essentially the same amount. I didn't feel I got meaningful savings or added value. The room had several problems. The refrigerator never got properly cold, and about $20 worth of fruit spoiled and smelled bad, so I had to throw it away. There were no trash bags, which was inconvenient. The air conditioning was another major issue: the thermostat wouldn't go below 68 degrees, and the room never felt close to that. I sweated through the night. The front desk said maintenance would inspect the unit and provide a fan if needed. I asked for one either way. It helped somewhat, but it was dusty and weak, and the room stayed warmer than expected the whole time. The room was much smaller than I expected, and the Disney theming inside felt generic. Aside from a few character pictures on the wall, it could have been any standard hotel room. My daughter and I found the bed cramped since we both move around while sleeping. I later learned there was a pull-down bed, but using it would have taken away the table space and made the already small room feel even more crowded.

We won't stay here again. This was our first experience at a WDW resort, and it was a disappointment. The beds were fairly comfortable and the room was clean, but small. With both queen beds in use, there was very little space to walk around. Our 10-year-old was excited to see the football field, but it was full of older teens and people in their early 20s yelling and cursing at each other. Security was standing right beside them, but nothing was done. We also had people smoking pot in the parking lot right outside our room. Around the common areas, there were several sheriffs standing around, not in their cars, which made us think there must be frequent issues at this motel. The front desk didn't care when we reported the yelling, swearing, and smoking. They told us to tell security next time, and had nothing to say when we explained security was already there. The woman who checked us in was nice and made an effort to help. She spoke to us like a princess in the parks might, which was okay at first but got old quickly. For what you pay, you get what you pay for. This is where Disney magic dies, and I wouldn't call it a family-friendly resort.

The room's interior was different from what I remembered on my last visit, and it was better. The one exception was the floor: we didn't have carpets, and they weren't clean, leaving our socks dirty. They should have been swept and washed. The food court was okay, though I wish it had more choices. We skipped the pool because we wanted to enjoy the parks, and Magic Kingdom was great as always. Other than the floors, we loved the place!
