Travelodge Inn & Suites Latham

We used to love this hotel and have been coming for years, but since the new owners took over, the guest service has gone downhill. They don’t seem to understand what accommodation means, which matters a lot in hospitality. The rooms are good and the pool is great for the price, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a family getaway anymore.

The place was pet friendly, which was exactly as advertised, but the pool was closed for cleaning on five of the six days we were there. Breakfast was poor quality: the omelets were always cold, and there was no half-and-half for coffee. The rooms need updating. The parking lot was small and trashy, with no painted lines. People parked badly, leaving too few spaces for guests. If you have pets or kids, be careful: people who aren’t staying there use the lot as a shortcut and drive through fast.

Check your transactions carefully if you stay here. I rented a room for one night and was charged for the room plus a $50 deposit that was supposed to be refunded at checkout. Over the next two days, the room charge somehow went up, then down, and I was charged extra. It looks like they’re taking money from people. I might not have noticed if I hadn’t checked my transactions. When I called about it, the woman at the front desk hung up on me. I called back several times asking for the manager, and she said the manager wouldn’t be in for another two weeks, then hung up again. I’m done going back and forth with them and will take legal action. It’s not about the small amount, it’s the principle.

There was construction next door, which could get loud, and our room was directly across from the elevator, so that was noisy too. The ice machines on the second and third floors were broken. The bathroom sink drain wouldn’t stay open, the fridge was extremely loud, and the heating and A/C unit didn’t work. The curtains were off their track and the dresser holding the TV was broken.
