The meeting room stayed uncomfortably warm, and mice ran through our meeting three times. Twice they headed for a closet sharing a wall with the breakfast room, which made me wonder about the food. Colleagues decided to eat breakfast elsewhere. The lobby A/C was out too, though that mostly bothered me at breakfast. I felt bad for the desk staff sitting in the dark to reduce the heat from the lights. I’ve probably spent a hundred nights at the Springhill Suites in Lawrence, Kansas, over the 18 years I worked for a company with a local site. It’s been slipping for a few years, but this June 10, 2026 visit hit a new low. There were a few centipedes in my room, though fewer than last time. I understand new owners took over about two years ago, around when the biggest decline began. I expect more from Marriott and am seriously questioning whether I’ll stay there again.

The staff were as kind as they could be before and after the indoor downpour, but the pool, laundry, and workout room were all closed. I was told the hotel is shutting down at the end of the week. I booked through Super.com and should have canceled when I learned what was going on. The staff seem to be trying to get me a refund, but I don't expect to get my money back through Super.com. In the middle of the night, the soaked fire alarm woke me. When I switched on the bedside light, water was pouring through the ceiling, including the light fixtures, fan, and alarm. It was happening in every room, even the bathroom, though I didn't record that. I got everyone up and packed quickly, but my duffle bag at the foot of the bed had already soaked up dirty water and many of my things were ruined. They offered another room on the same floor, but I didn't want to risk another ceiling leak.

The staff were thoughtful and trustworthy, answered all my questions, and gave me some great ideas for things to do in the city. I loved staying here and will come back when I'm in Kansas. The setting is picturesque, with a lovely river view and a good walk nearby.

We left several days early and moved to another hotel. There were leaks in the halls, the carpet was wet, and there was no A/C in the lobby or hallways. The lobby bathroom was awful. The pool and hot tub didn't work either. Staff's excuse was that the building used to be a shopping center and that it was cool if you stayed in your room. This was the worst Marriott we've stayed at as Gold members.

The riverfront patio felt unsafe and badly neglected, with rusty railings, smashed lamp posts, and garbage bags lying around. Inside, there were missing ceiling tiles, water stains, and an unpleasant smell throughout. As a longtime Marriott customer whose family owns two Marriott timeshares, I was disappointed. This stay fell well below Marriott's standards, and I can't recommend the place until major improvements are made. I had to cancel my second night, and the staff accommodated that without question.
