Wingate by Wyndham Lexington

It's been renovated and upgraded, and the rooms are clean and spacious. The continental breakfast is served, and there's a heated pool. Hot and cold water are available in the fitness center around the clock. It's super convenient to VA Horse Center. There were some issues too: mold on the tub caulking, the hot tub was out of order, staff were repeatedly in sweatpants, and some renovation details were poorly done.

My husband, younger son, and I all got diarrhea after breakfast, and my son threw up. I can't say what caused it, but we all had the eggs, cheese, and the cream cheese and veggie spread in common. I already submitted a review on Expedia and couldn't change it, so I'm adding this update here on Google. In that review, I said check-in was pleasant and quick, and our room was spacious with a decent-sized fridge and microwave. The continental breakfast had the usual hot and cold options, and I appreciated the kitchen staff lady who put the sausages on a separate dish for my son, who has multiple food allergies. But the hot tub was out of order, even though we'd booked the hotel to take a break from traveling in our RV and use it. There were stains on one bedspread, and my husband couldn't sleep because the single-unit heater kept cycling on and off all night.

The price made a big difference in how I felt about the stay. We were there 11/8-11/9, and it was over $50 more than the advertised rate for nearby weekends. There was a wedding and lots of guests, so I'm guessing that pushed it up. At the lower price, I can definitely see the value. Our king room was large, and the bed and pillows were really comfortable. The pool looked beautiful, though it was a little cold for me. My daughter liked it while I sat in the warm hot tub, which didn't seem to have working jets. Breakfast was fine, just the basics, and I missed having a pancake or waffle maker. There were a few small cleanliness spots and a flickering light. We also got an email, a text, and a receipt slipped under the door more than two hours before checkout. That felt like way too much pressure to leave.

I was only passing through and in a rush, so I didn't try the pool or gym, though they looked nice. Parking was plentiful, and having a chain restaurant so close was a big plus. The double queen room was clean, comfortable, and very nice. Breakfast was okay, and the facilities and staff performance were hard to beat in this price range. My main problem was Wi-Fi in room 428. I couldn't see the network or connect from there. For a hotel serving both business and leisure guests, people need to be able to work, even if access costs extra. Working from the lobby isn't appealing. The place is individually owned and operated under franchise to Wyndham, and they offer a very generous military and veterans rate. I'd recommend it even with the Wi-Fi problem, but it's time for an update. Thanks.
