We couldn't find a room inside Death Valley, so we settled for an available place on the California side nearby. For the price and location, it couldn't have been better. The furniture was decent, some cabinets had been updated, and the place looked clean. It was probably okay, or better than other motels I've stayed in. The only trouble we had was with the water temperature in both the shower and the tap.

We used this place to shower and sleep after a week in the mountains, before driving back to San Diego. The beds were comfortable, the room clean, the AC worked well, and the pool was a welcome treat. The family who owns it are extremely sweet, and parking right in front of the rooms was easy. It's within walking distance of the bars and eateries and was quiet enough, though we could hear footsteps from the room next door through the floors. Figuring out how to get hot water in the shower felt like cracking a combination lock.

We had a pleasant, convenient stay at the Mount Whitney Motel in Lone Pine and would happily return. The bed was comfortable, and the extra pillows were great. Our cozy room also had a microwave, fridge, and TV. The front desk staff were friendly and quick. There's a pool we didn't use, and no breakfast, which was fine by us. Just a small gripe: the complimentary hand soap didn't lather very well.

The rooms were clean, and the customer service was excellent for a budget motel. Noisy neighbors having a party brought the rating down to four stars, though I'm not sure what management could have done about it. We'd stay again if we're in the area.

The property is old and the rooms are small, but everything was clean and the front desk staff were nice. You can tell it used to be a popular hotel. The pool is postage-stamp sized, though it was still nice to have one.
