Long Beach Marriott

My friend and I stayed at Long Beach Marriott before our 5-day cruise, and I'd return. The standout people who made our stay wonderful were Marilyn in the restaurant, Justin in front desk management, shuttle driver Mon, and Melo at the omelet station. The hotel is centrally located near Long Beach Airport. Mon picked us up for the short ride in a friendly, attentive way. Check-in was smooth and informative, and staff were always there to greet us when we came and went. The elevators were clean and quick, the hallways bright with clean-looking carpet, and the furnishings in the room and common areas were modern and well kept. We had no room problems, and although I wondered about airport noise, it was never an issue. Breakfast in the Terrace Grill was delicious and hot, with custom omelets, waffles, baked goods, eggs, meat, and seasonal fruit. I told the staff I used to be an Assistant Front Desk Manager and VIP Ambassador for another luxury hotel chain. Did that get me anything? Yes, exceptional service from the team.

The stay was my first time getting this kind of service at a Marriott, and I'm not sure I'll return. Breakfast was okay, and the Starbucks coffee was good. My poor mom didn't notice the mold on the gross blankets until the next day. I raised it with the front desk; they apologized and said housekeeping would come right away. When I returned, the replacement blankets were on a bag on the floor. Were they expecting me to change them myself? They said they'd alert a supervisor, but at checkout, no one had recorded what happened. When I explained it and showed the picture, the front desk employee acted like it didn't matter and said nothing was noted on the account. It made me wonder if this had been raised before. I asked for a manager, but was told no one was available. When I asked if they could leave a note for one to call me, she immediately handed me the manager's card and said I could call him. Marriott management, it's time to check and replace or upgrade the blankets and covers.

The beds weren't comfortable at all, you sink into them. I was extremely disappointed with my December 27th stay. The fire alarm started going off at 7AM and kept sounding every 10 minutes until 10 am. When I called the front desk, the employee picked up and said “false alarm,” then hung up. Manager IVAN said he didn't believe his employee would do that because they were among the most trained staff. That response makes me wonder about the rest of the employees. The staff were extremely rude. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL!

We booked at the last minute after our evening flight was canceled, and the staff were professional and kind. A lot of passengers from our flight showed up late at night, and they handled the crowd well. Highly recommend for the staff, cleanliness, comfort, and convenience.
