The room itself was nice, and I liked the rooftop until people started partying there. I also appreciated having a nice cheese shop and the Last Bookstore nearby, though I was put off by used needles on the sidewalk a block away. Watch where you step and wear sturdy shoes. You'll need to pay for public parking, since the building has none of its own. Getting into the room was a mess. We followed the detailed directions, but the key wasn't where it was supposed to be. We gave the requested 45-minute notice that we were coming to check in. The person who answered just said, "okay," and hung up. When we arrived, we and several other guests had to wait while running into the same check-in problems. Before sending the check-in instructions, they required our personal information and photos of our IDs. I had to resend the ID photos several times because the recipient said they were blurry, four times in all. For all those hoops, getting checked in was ridiculously difficult. Some windows don't lock, so a person could climb out, and someone outside might be able to push one up and get in. There was also a stripped wire in a closet that didn't look up to code. As I understand it, the listing was made by whoever rents or owns the unit, rather than the building owner.

I've stayed here twice now and would recommend it. The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, plus a washer and dryer, and there's a shared pool, jacuzzi, and gym on the roof. For me, it's a much nicer option than a hotel.

Check-in was quick and simple: get the instructions ahead of time, then pick up the key from the lockbox when you arrive. The rooms have plenty of space, and it's under two miles from Dodgers Stadium and Chinatown. I'd book here again.

I was unsure at first, but the building felt safe, the staff were kind, and the room was spacious enough that I'd stay again. Ours was booked through Expedia. The building staff were nice, and everything inside felt safe. The gym was great, too. Thanks to Sonia for letting us leave our bags before check-in, and to the helpful person who kept in touch with us by text. A few things could be better. Some photos seem outdated, since there was more wear and tear than they showed, and the windows need soundproofing. It was pretty loud. The area felt a little rough and is far from most tourist sights. If you're heading to West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, or the beaches, you'd be better off staying on the other side of LA. Clearer directions for entering the building would help newcomers to HWH. There's a door in the parking lot where you can call valet services, and they'll help if you're staying there.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the rooftop pool and hot tub made the stay feel special. We were there for Halloween weekend at the One Lux HWH Downtown LA. A bonus we hadn't expected was free breakfast, with fresh bagels, bacon, egg, and cheese, plus complimentary mimosas and beers until 4pm. We had an incredible time and would definitely recommend it.
