Sheraton Grand Los Angeles

It’s a decent option if you need to be in DTLA. The Bloc connects to the hotel, and its own security helps make the area feel alright. There’s plenty nearby without walking far: food choices, hair and nail places, and even Uniqlo if you need a shirt or jacket in a pinch. Whole Foods and CVS are a block away for groceries and essentials. The hotel’s valet and security guys were great, and I appreciated having them around, especially with homeless people and others roaming DTLA. It can feel dodgy for women alone. Housekeeping did a top job, the executive lounge attendants were super, and Chris deserves a shoutout. The bar was decent too, with friendly bartenders and good, if pricey, cocktails. There’s free water across from the gym. When the lounge closes on weekends, breakfast is downstairs, but the buffet is no better than a Hampton Inn, so don’t get excited. The lounge food wasn’t good, and alcohol wasn’t included. Marriott status gets you a $15 daily food credit. The rooms are old. The air conditioning rattled and switched off in the middle of the night, and the walls are thin enough to hear people talking, having sex, and even farting. Parking costs extra, as do a resort fee on top of city tax and the room charge, so it isn’t cheap. The reception team, all gathered at the desk, could use training and a change in attitude. Most were unfriendly and not helpful.

Our corner room had a great view, and the hotel felt very luxurious. The sofa was long and comfy, just right for relaxing, and the bed was soft. Even on a high floor, we heard occasional street noise and sirens, but it was manageable. We used our dining credit to get breakfast from District each day. The food was good and warm, though the wait on Saturday morning was nearly 30 minutes because the line was so long. The hotel also lends umbrellas for a $30 deposit, which came in handy on rainy days. Most of the staff were excellent and helpful. At first, an older woman at the front desk told me there were no umbrellas when I asked to borrow one. Later, my husband asked a different desk agent, a white man, who kindly apologized, checked properly, and found one. He was also very helpful at checkout. The staff member who helped us check in gave us detailed information and great support as well. Shoutout to those two.

From my room on the 18th floor, facing east, I had an incredible view. The hotel has a swanky feel, the room was thoughtfully designed, and service was great. I did notice dust around the TV and backdrop area, but that didn’t spoil an otherwise pleasant stay. There are some fantastic restaurants nearby, too.

The rooms were spacious and clean, and the hotel is really pretty. Reception was friendly and easy to talk to. My one complaint is that they only offer valet parking.
