Midtown Inn And Suites

I booked what I was sure was a non-smoking room, but at check-in they said only smoking rooms were available. They told me that unless you call the hotel directly, the smoking preference on a reservation is only a request. Since they already had my card details and I hadn't cancelled seven days ahead, they charged me for one night anyway. I had to drive 20 minutes to find another hotel. The place also looked run-down and sketchy, and there are nicer, cheaper hotels in Louisville. I wouldn't stay here.

Clean enough and fine for one night, with cable TV, clean sheets, and pets allowed, though there's no real pet area. The place feels noisy and seedy. The bathroom looks half-remodeled: new tile, unfinished ceiling, and sloppy caulking. Wallpaper is missing in spots. It's on a busy street, so there's a lot of noise late at night and early in the morning.

We were passing through for one night on the way to a family funeral in Ohio. The bed was good and the room clean, though the hotel is older and seems well maintained. In the morning we couldn't get the shower to work, no matter how we twisted or pulled it, so we gave up, went for breakfast, and mentioned it at checkout. The staff looked at us like we were idiots and said the handle had to be pulled straight out. When I asked why that wasn't posted, they said corporate wouldn't allow it. I suggested telling guests at check-in, especially since we had tried pulling the handle. The response was that she always tells people and we should have called the front desk. Then she handed over the checkout confirmation with a minimal apology.

The room was cramped, and the toilet looked like it had vomit behind it. At check-in the young woman at the front desk kept us waiting through a 30-minute hassle and wouldn't let us in before 4 p.m. She was condescending and rolled her eyes. She ignored calls from the room, but answered when I called on my cell. I asked if there was coffee in the lobby and she told me to make it in my room. I went to the front for fresh coffee anyway, and it was cold. She stood chatting with boys instead of answering the phone. I do not recommend staying here.
