Parking was the one surprise: they said we needed to validate it to come and go, but never made clear that parking cost extra. The fee on my card caught me off guard. There was plenty of outdoor parking during the week, though, and it wasn't a big deal. Our room was spacious and comfortable, but without dressers our things ended up spread around for a few days. Service was prompt and good. The location in NuLu is very convenient, near Market Street cafes, shops, and eateries. There are plenty of places within walking distance, including Please & Thank You, coffee shops, a dispensary for cannabis-friendly visitors, liquor stores, thrift shops, and bars like Garage Bar. Food options nearby include MeeshMeesh, Biscuit Belly, and Royals Hot Chicken. Downtown spots like the Slugger Museum, science center, restaurants, and bars are easy to reach, and you can cross the bridge to IN if needed.

The room felt roomy, with stylish modern lighting and thoughtful finishes throughout. The Tempo Hotel had a clean, fresh, modern look with a touch of elegance. That shower really stood out, my husband was already looking forward to using it again the next morning. I liked the natural shampoo, and the ceramic hairdryer was a welcome quality touch. There was complimentary fresh pour-over coffee in the room when we woke up, which was lovely. Management clearly cared about making the stay enjoyable, and that came through in every interaction. We had a great visit, better than expected, and would love to come back.

The biggest letdown was the rooftop restaurant: even on Saturday evening they no longer used the dining room, seating us instead on an enclosed patio in hard chairs without cushions. The menu had been cut down to chips, dips, a burger, and salad, just bar food, despite being advertised on OpenTable as upscale. I brought my husband there for his birthday and felt embarrassed and disappointed. The Coffee Cafe also closed at checkout time, 11 a.m., which was disappointing. I paid extra for a corner room and didn't get one, so now I'll have to fight for a credit. We stayed in 411. The bed was comfortable, the Peloton bike in the room was a cool option, and the bath mirror paired with my device for music or audio. It's across the street from Rabbit Hole bourbon distillery, and the heating and air worked well. Noise from the halls and outside kept me from sleeping much. The lighted mirror wasn't bright enough to do makeup, there was no bathroom fan, no dresser or drawers, and no coffee maker, only an electric kettle for a pour-over coffee bag or filter. This Hilton has some unique extras and a good location, but missed basic functions.

The manager and service staff handled my concerns with the best hospitality and response I've experienced at any Hilton property around the world. Brandon and the whole team deserve credit, BZ. As a long-stay guest, I did have a few room issues early on, which was discouraging because Hilton-affiliated hotels have generally given me an above-and-beyond experience. Even so, the good outweighed the bad by far. I could name at least a dozen staff members who helped.
