Mackinaw Budget Inn

For four adults and two kids in joining rooms 220, they gave us very few towels, shampoo, and soap. The TV in the second room didn't work, the mini fridge made an awful noise all night, and the doors badly needed WD40. The place was dirty and old, with old dog food, coins, and more trash on the floors, plus water damage in the bathroom. Check-in meant going next door to thunderbird hotel. Yes, it's cheap, but honestly it isn't worth it. Stay away.

This worked fine for us as an older couple who just want a clean, quiet place when traveling. It's within walking distance of town, and a quick call gets you a shuttle to the island ferry landings. There's no need for all the bells and whistles of a new hotel. The check-in staff could smile more and be friendlier.

It was late, and I didn't want to go through the unhelpful front desk again to ask for a different room, so I washed the walls and door frame myself, threw the bedspread on the floor, and killed the flies. They should've paid me! I had to drive to the motel next door just to check in, and the staff weren't welcoming or helpful. The room smelled musty and moldy, and flies kept landing on the bedspread, which made me think it wasn't cleaned between guests. The bathroom was horrible: poop splattered on the walls, what looked like someone had wiped their butt on the door frame, spiders in the tub, and a toilet that wouldn't flush. I had to call the front desk for the wifi password, and they weren't friendly then either.

The staff were cold and annoyed, dodged the refund, and pushed us into another room that was still disgusting. It had moldy walls, filthy floors, cobwebs full of bugs, and missing bathroom tiles. We left and booked another hotel at triple the price because it was late notice. We got only half our money back. This place should be condemned. Check-in was confusing because you have to get your key at the Thunderbird Inn. The first room was revolting: blood on the bathroom wall, stained furniture, hair in the bed, dead bugs, and broken lights. I don't normally write reviews, but this was so bad I had to warn people. Avoid this place.
