Sunrise Beach Motel

The easy check-in and checkout made the stay simple, and the room was updated, very clean, and smelled of fresh pine, which I personally loved. The beds were nicely made and comfortable. Looking out over Lake Huron, we could see the Mackinac Bridge in the distance. There were a few little spiders around, just a fair warning, but they didn't bother me. I was pleased with our stay at Sunrise Beach motel in Mackinaw city. The low ratings had made me a little wary, but I'd stay there again.

We were upgraded from an older one-queen room to a recently updated room with two beds, which worked perfectly for me, my mom, and my brother. It was clean, modern, and really nice, and check-in was quick and easy. The mini fridge was so tiny we couldn't fit a pizza box in it. The private beach is small and pretty average, and could use more regular cleaning and upkeep. You can see Mackinac bridge and Island from it. The indoor pool was a big letdown: dark green water and a dead frog floating in the middle. The hot tub was only partly clean, with more than five spiders floating on top. The smaller outdoor pool was clearer, but the bottom needed a good scrub and the water was freezing. The room technology is old.

I was there 8/8/25. After I asked for a refund for the disgusting first room, the manager said entering it meant he couldn't refund me, but offered a "better" room. It was a bit bigger, but still a dive. The AC was very noisy and the room was musty enough to set off my sinuses badly. There weren't many electrical outlets, and most of the appliances were unplugged. The bed was uncomfortable.

I've been going to mackinaw city all my life, and the motel has been part of that for years. My mom used to rent a room here, and now I stay here with my kids. We're about six hours away, but whenever we come, the rooms are well kept and the bridge view is amazing.
