The hosts were the best part for us. Thoughtful, kind, smart, and easy to talk with, Tom and Heather seemed to anticipate what guests might need, while giving us space when we wanted downtime. We’d be honored to call them friends. We stayed four nights at Speckled Hen Inn in December 2025, and found the place warm, quiet, clean, and welcoming. The bedroom was especially cozy, and the bathroom was spacious and brilliantly clean. Though it’s in the Madison area, it felt like pure country. The varied, delicious, healthful food gave each guest plenty of choice. There’s also a handy fridge, microwave, and coffee maker for guests, and the other visitors were interesting. The price was reasonable, and we’re definitely looking forward to visiting again.

Tom and Heather were so easy and comfortable to be around, and the fresh eggs and apples from the orchard made for some of the best breakfasts we’ve had at a B&B. The farm setting is peaceful, with chickens, sheep, a llama, and a horse grazing nearby. We used Speckled Hen Inn, just outside Madison, as our base for exploring Madison, Monroe, and the surrounding dairy and cheese-making areas. Our room had everything we needed, including a comfortable bed, an electric fireplace, and a water pitcher. We were comfortable throughout. It’s one of the best bed and breakfasts we’ve stayed at, and we highly recommend it.

Tom showed us around the farm and introduced us to the animals. We even got to bottle-feed a lamb and learn from his expertise about the special jobs and purposes the animals serve. Heather and Tom were welcoming and attentive, and it was clear they take pride in the inn. We appreciated all the little details and the lovely conversations. Since we were the only guests, they unexpectedly upgraded our suite, which was so kind. The beds were unbelievably comfortable, and we slept like babies. Tom’s welcome cookies were great, and Heather’s breakfasts were delicious. Even with no other guests, we got breakfast specials each day, and every one was spectacular. We’re so thankful for the lovely memories.

Tom and Heather made our weekend in Madison even better. My wife and I were amazed by how warm and professional they were. We came to stay at Speckled Hen Inn for the Morgan Wallen concert, and the property felt beautiful, safe, and tender. Breakfast was wonderful, made to order with hot coffee and friendly conversation. If you’re thinking about staying there for a getaway, don’t hesitate. I promise it’ll be unforgettable.

As a solo traveler, I needed some real time to myself, and this peaceful, relaxing sanctuary was just right. The scenery, animals, welcoming hospitality, and accommodations were all highlights, along with the amazing breakfasts. Those mini cherry muffins were delicious, and you’d never guess they were gluten-free. I’ll always remember feeding Mini Cooper.
