Holiday Inn Express & Suites Marion by IHG

The bed was comfortable, the TV was nice, and there was decent storage, but I’d rather sleep in my car than come back. A really awful smell hit me as soon as I entered the room. I had to chew gum to keep from gagging, and though I got used to it while inside, it was still there all week. Two or three of the lights didn’t work either. Service made the stay worse. Even with the do not disturb sign up, two employees walked into my room while I was asleep, both on the same morning. I asked for a late checkout, but third shift couldn’t approve it and said they’d leave a note for first shift. No one replied until checkout time, when someone called without even saying hello and asked, “you getting out or paying for another night?” When I brought up my request, she said she’d seen it, told me third shift couldn’t approve it, and gave me one hour, then hung up. I travel a lot for work, and this was just wow.

The staff were cordial, the rooms were nice, and I started each day well rested after enjoying my favorite tea with the complimentary breakfast. I came to Marion, Indiana for a professional conference and was glad to find a Holiday Inn Express with the amenities I’ve come to expect. Great job, Marion Holiday Inn!

My sister and her husband came to town for a funeral this week and stayed two nights, while our son and his family stayed one. After the funeral, my sister got home to WI and realized she’d left her lit-up makeup mirror in the room. She called the hotel, and my husband and I went in to ask about it. We were told it hadn’t been turned in to lost and found and the housekeepers hadn’t seen it. I believe that’s a lie and that one of the housekeepers took it. Housekeepers need to be held accountable, and we won’t recommend anyone stay here. Then the hotel sent an automated response that didn’t address our review at all. We didn’t have a good stay, and we still won’t recommend this place. That reply only reinforced how pathetic the customer service felt.

The public areas were clean and breakfast was good, but room service fell short during our five-night stay. Nobody made the bed or straightened the room, and on our last day we had to get towels from the front desk while the trash was still there. We’re five years past COVID, and I don’t see why rooms can’t be refreshed, especially for a stay of five nights.
