We stopped at the hotel restaurant for lunch, and the food was much better than we expected. Our waitress, Kasy, was super sweet. It cost a little more, but it was worth it. Craig was busy behind the bar but still smiling and quick with our drinks. I recommend the Jolly Rancher or Purple Rain cocktails. We could also get to Starbucks without going outside, and there were plenty of restrooms around the lobby. This was a work trip, and we initially went to the Chalet by mistake before getting everything straightened out and reaching the Plaza. The front desk service was great. We loved the bathroom in our room, and the different lighting let us set different moods. The air conditioning and heater ran quietly and kept the temperature how we wanted it.
The property looked recently updated and was clean and adequate, but the service needs work. We stayed two nights over the weekend and will choose somewhere else next time, since there are so many options nearby. On Friday I checked in on my phone, but couldn't get a digital key, so the app sent me to the front desk. The attendant handed me a ready-made key with my name on a sticky note, without explaining anything about the hotel or its amenities. I realized I might get free breakfast with my Bonvoy platinum status and had to ask. He confirmed I was entitled to it and said I'd be on the list. I would have missed that benefit if I hadn't brought it up. The breakfast wasn't anything special. At $20 per person before tip, I'd have been unhappy if it hadn't been complimentary. Service was fine the second day, but the first day's server actually told a table to sit closer if they wanted better service, even though only four tables were occupied. I also waited until I was almost finished eating before getting water or being offered coffee. On Sunday, checkout morning, someone knocked before 9 a.m. to ask if we were leaving that day, despite our do-not-disturb sign. We said we'd check out in about an hour, and they went away. I could understand a knock if we'd stayed past checkout, but not that early with the sign up. My platinum status could have gotten me late checkout too.
A manager treated me horribly at an event I was working at this hotel. My client had paid a lot to hold the event there, and we had walked through the full space beforehand. I had permission to use the inner hallways, but when my part began, the heavyset manager shouted at me to get out. He wouldn't listen to what I was trying to explain and had an awful attitude. I told him the time he was making me spend explaining myself was time I should have been on stage entertaining my client. He didn't care. After I got off stage, he had locked the room where I was changing. I was late for my next part and had to beg another staff member to open the room with my belongings. All of this had been arranged hours before my part. I'll never recommend this hotel to clients again, and when I work with local companies or national conferences, I'll discourage them from using it.
My room was spacious, modern, and generally clean, though I did spot a strand of hair on the shower wall. The hair dryer plug was coming apart, making it hard to plug in and remove. The view wasn't anything special. Despite the room being labeled “Club Lounge Access,” there weren't any extra benefits. I was first assigned a Two Queen Room, then asked if I wanted to switch to a single King Room. They gave no reason, maybe they figured I didn't need two beds.
The bedspread on my bed was torn and stained. On the second night I requested a clean comforter, and they brought an old but apparently clean blanket with the padding crumpled inside. I left the comforter in a pile on the floor with the sheets they'd put over it. When I returned later, they'd put the bedspread that was on the floor back on my bed. The room had Asian lovebugs on three separate days, and there was hair on the bathroom ceiling. The tub looked dirty too. A cleaner sprayed a very strong air freshener, like Febreze, and I had to leave the door open for about 15 minutes to air the room out. I stayed four days, and the daily 'cleaning' seemed to mean only making the bed and changing towels. Maybe that's all they were meant to do, but I thought they'd at least wipe the mirror and sink. They didn't refill the creamer or sugar for my coffee, so I had to go downstairs for more. I ordered kale salad through room service and got lettuce instead, which went terribly with the warm grains. The lobby chairs had stains, and the floors hadn't been vacuumed. I probably should've asked to move rooms, but they were booked and I didn't know whether another room would be any better. Not a good experience for the money.
