I’m a 66-year-old woman on the Section 8 voucher program. I turned in all my paperwork from Laurel Grove on December 19. The note I received said the Housing Authority could inspect the apartment in December and that it would be ours once the inspection was done. I tried calling the Housing Authority and left a message, but no one called back. When I called Laurel Grove, the voicemail box was full. On Thursday, January 25, my IHSS worker and I went to the Housing Authority. They told us the apartment had passed inspection and that I could pay the security deposit. We were so excited. But when we got to Laurel Grove, they said the Housing Authority had taken too long and they’d already rented it out. If you’re low income, I wouldn’t come here. You could waste all your time on an apartment that seems to be for the rich.
