Homewood Suites by Hilton Falls Church - I-495 at Rt. 50

Marquis gave me excellent customer service both times I spoke with him. I called yesterday before booking, and he made the property sound right for me and assured me I'd be comfortable for my five-day stay. I booked today and he was just as helpful. Highly recommended!

The check-in was easy, and the gentleman who helped me was great, but I wouldn't stay here again. The place is very dated and didn't meet my usual Hilton expectations. My room had a cracked sink, mold, an old stove that looked from the 60's or 70's, a towel bar that kept falling off, and a thermostat I believe still uses a mercury switch. Worst of all, there was what looked like human fluid, blood or mucus, on the wall by the sink. It was nasty, and I attached photos. The gym was tiny, had only cardio equipment, and felt unsanitary even after I tried wiping it down. It also doesn't open until 6 AM because it's on the same floor as guest rooms and they want to keep things quiet, which doesn't work for early risers. Housekeeping tried to enter at 7:55 AM while I was showering, then a supervisor knocked at 8:15 and asked when I was leaving. Checkout wasn't until 12:00 PM, and I'd only been there one night. That raised concerns about their records and why they were asking guests to leave so early.

A faulty fire alarm woke the whole hotel at 2AM. I'm writing from the lobby while the fire department tries to fix it. A firefighter specifically told me it wasn't a prank, but a malfunction in the alarm system. The place is badly outdated and feels like somewhere you'd stay only when other hotels are full. The staff tries, but can't make up for what seems like obvious fiscal neglect from Hilton.

I picked this hotel for its indoor pool for my children and its location outside busy DC. We were traveling to meet family we'd recently found through DNA testing, so the trip meant a lot. I won't stay at this property or choose this brand again after how my situation was handled. My young child had a medical emergency, and our family physician sent us to urgent care before my child was rushed to the ER. I have documentation from both places. All three of my travel companions had bacterial pneumonia, and one was hospitalized. Traveling from New Jersey, I didn't get home until many hours after checkout. I had bought travel insurance and a partial refund option because my children have special needs. I contacted Expedia first for guidance. Two agents tried to reach the hotel without getting an answer, so I asked for the direct number and called myself. I wasn't demanding a refund. I was open to rescheduling, even at a higher rate, and just wanted to understand my options and the hotel's position so I could deal with the insurance properly. The reply felt dismissive and lacking in empathy. I was told I “should have called yesterday from the hospital.” Refunds may not always be possible, but a more professional and compassionate response would have been appropriate in these circumstances. Expedia tried again shortly afterward and still got no answer. The lack of responsiveness and professionalism was disappointing and far below what I expected.
