The manager told me to leave the property, so I packed up and left. When I asked for some kind of credit, he said I wouldn't get one and could file a chargeback with my bank. The front-desk woman had called him after he wasn't there the next morning, but first made a passive-aggressive remark that I was the only checkout with issues that morning. I reminded her politely that wasn't true, and asked why it would matter anyway. The manager sounded uninterested when I explained what had happened. I've never had a stay this bad or dealt with customer service this unprofessional. The trouble started at check-in. The lobby was deserted, and an older man working security was asleep in a dark corner. He woke when I greeted him and indicated he'd called someone. That person came out, ignored my greeting, sat down at the desk, and handed me a keycard without even a basic pleasantry. The room had a long hair on the tub, and two of the three flimsy tan blankets had long black hairs on them. None of the linens smelled washed. Another guest later complained about hairs in his tub too. There was no hot water in the shower, three outlets didn't work, and the Wi-Fi was terrible when it did connect. I went to the front desk twice. At first they said there was no other vacancy and told me to email the manager or come back in the morning. When I returned that afternoon about the hot water, someone came up and fiddled with the kitchen sink for some reason, then the shower handle. Hot water came through after about five minutes, but I got just one hot shower for the whole stay before it went back to freezing. The road-facing location also makes it hard to sleep. There was honking late at night, which isn't the hotel's fault, but street lights came into the room and the morning sun hit it early because there were no blackout curtains on that side. I usually stay in three- or four-star places. This one calls itself four-star, but it couldn't be further from that standard. If you need a good night's sleep and to function the next morning, you'd be better off at another place on the same strip that meets the basics it can control.

The biggest problem was how management treated us. My colleague went to the desk politely to report the hygiene issues and ask for a partial credit. The manager responded, "So what do you want?" He refused the credit and told us, "You won't get that, do a chargeback." My colleague calmly said it didn't have to come to that, but the manager snapped, yelled, "Get off my property!" and kicked him out at 9:00 AM. I've never dealt with such aggressive, appalling service. Avoid the Westover Arms Hotel. The room was filthy when we arrived, with hair in both the bed and bathtub. The experience was unacceptable from start to finish.

The room was spacious, with a large fridge and ice maker, though its water dispenser was broken. The front desk usually picked up the phone, but never called back when I left a message. They earned a point from me for printing our cruise luggage tags, taking my rating from two stars to three. Sleep and a chance to relax matter most to me in a hotel, and the street-facing third-floor room made that hard. The single-pane windows and cheap one-inch blinds let in light and noise. The honking was ridiculous, and the room got bright as soon as the sun came up. It might be less of an issue in a rear-facing room. We planned to return after the cruise, but I canceled the room for the following week. The TV was nearly useless. I wanted some background sound to cover the outside noise, but the satellite picture pixelated every few seconds. After I asked them to reset the modem, the Wi-Fi was decent. Network TV or streaming would help. The worker who came up only said that's what satellite does, but it shouldn't do that on a clear night. A coffee maker was already in the room, so it would've been nice to have coffee there after a terrible night's sleep.

I thought checkout was at 12 instead of 11, and the hotel was empty. The female receptionist came screaming into my room, snapping her fingers and making a huge scene. She said, “who do you think you are,” and called the POLICE. The officers seemed shocked by how the receptionist acted. She was so angry that I don't think she should work in a hotel. The service was horrible, and I'll try to sue the hotel.

The room had a full kitchen, plus a washer and dryer. Even the fridge had an ice maker. Great hotel and location.
