I was charged the $89 rate plus tax, $101.58, at checkout, then charged the rate again the next morning. There’s nowhere on the billing statement to initial for the owner to make preauthorization charges, and I was told this wouldn’t happen again because I’m an elite diamond member. Amanda, the manager, is a liar, and the front desk staff are incompetent. It happened before, and she said it wouldn’t happen again. My bank takes seven days to return these charges. I could have paid $94 plus tax a night at a Sleep Inn Suites, with free laundry and better accommodations, without these authorization charges. Check other Midland hotels before staying in this rat trap, and put a vin lock on your debit card. I’ll report the owner to the BBB. The owner and manager are acting like slumlords.

The staff were nice, and the hotel and rooms felt clean, though a little old. The bed and pillows were comfortable. But bright spotlights shine into the front rooms. If you manage to fall asleep, waking in the middle of the night feels like it’s 11:00 a.m. because of all that light coming in.

The cleaning crew and breakfast staff did a good job, and I had no problems with cleanliness or breakfast. Most of the rest of the stay was a struggle. At check-in, the front desk assistant said, “I don't know if we have any clean rooms,” which wasn’t reassuring. The gym is open only 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM. The evening closing time was fine, but I wanted to work out before leaving for work, and all the equipment other than the elliptical and treadmill was kept in a box that you had to check out at the desk. The pool was out of order and looked like it had been that way for a very long time. My door wouldn’t close fully unless I pulled it hard, and the lock took a lot of effort to engage, which felt like a safety concern. On my last morning, loud work woke me up; they had shut off the water, so I couldn’t shower, use the sink, or flush the toilet before leaving. Some advance notice would have helped.

Everything in the room was flawless except for three ink spots on the carpet and worn outlets that gave me trouble when I plugged in my laptop or iron. The staff were okay. It wasn’t where I’d have chosen to stay, but it worked out, and it was only 15 minutes away.
