Rodeway Inn Milford - I-84

This is a no-frills place, and it was quiet during the off season. The room was clean, there were no visible insects, and it was inexpensive, which covers the basics for a short stay. The mismatched pillows, sheets, and other linens were noticeable. So were the reused shampoo bottles, with labels worn nearly off, and I had no idea what they were being refilled with. With the plane limit of 3.4 ounces, who brings their own shampoo? The toilet paper was see-through, too, which added to the sense that management is pinching pennies. Check-out was smooth, but the woman at check-in wasn’t friendly or personable. Still, for a few nights when you’re in a pinch, it’ll do.

We were in town for a family party, and the inn was easy to reach from I-84. Our room was big and spacious, with a comfortable bed. Town and its shops were about 10 minutes away, and there were plenty of places to eat, including Goodfellas Pizza.

We found the motel on Hotels Tonight and drove 40 minutes to get there, only to find the front desk closed. The number we called connected us to another hotel. They gave us what they said was the right number, but that one was wrong too. We ended up driving another 50-plus minutes to a listed Fairfield Marriott and spent the night there.

The room was damp, the bathroom door had swollen and wouldn’t open or close properly, and the main door had the same problem. There was no grab bar in the slippery shower, the alarm clock was covered in a sticky substance, and the refrigerator freezer door was missing. The upstairs steps looked dangerous, and the air conditioner was so noisy we were up all night. Behind the rooms, the view was a garbage-filled trailer. There wasn’t even a coffee pot. We couldn’t wait to leave. Our first room reeked of cigarette smoke masked by strong fragrance, so we had to switch rooms. Outside it, garbage with ants was lying on the ground. The toilet was extremely low and wouldn’t flush. We took pictures, but the front desk didn’t believe us. It was awful, and the owner was nasty. This was a miserable stay, stay somewhere else.
